05 v. 06 models.

Despite only having driven c.100 miles, there appears to be a big difference between my new TDV6 & the 05 models I have driven. The steering feels more direct & the engine seems more powerful, especially when pulling away, which makes no sense, as it's obviously not loosend up at all. Also, on my route from home to my office this a.m I averaged 24.3mpg Smile , which considering the nature of the route is brilliant, the Saab only does 25mpg!
Have L/R changed anything, different ECU map maybe?

New software for engine for sure... had this done at the weekend and boy does it feel far more progressive and smoother.

As for steering, not sure if this is controlled by an ECU or not... mine does feel slightly heavier but that may be completely in my imagination - most things in life are Wink

Interesting, the steering feel could be down to the Scorpion Zero's, the 05 D3's I drove all had Wranglers I think. Hustling it through some bends this a.m, I was pleasantly surprised how accurately you could place it.
The engine really does feel different though, my wife complained about the sluggish nature of the 05 that she drove & I had to reassure her with the Turbochip story Laughing

I'm running Wranglers so they probably do feel different to the Scorpions.

What I do know for sure is the engine is much better and feels like half a TC job has been done Wink

Simon, do you have experience of driving a TC car?

Just wondering if the new patches negate the need for chipping, or whether it's still worth it.

Latest LR sw does NOT increase power or torque...

I've only driven a J&E modded car and that was very impressive.

The new LR sw only adjusts the engine settings... reduces turbo lag and lazyness of the engine. Also improves cold starting etc. All detailed in their tech bulletins.

It does not boost power in any way at all... just makes it feel far more responsive and thus quicker and more powerful.

TC and J&E increase the BHP and torque so if this is what you are after - then yes go ahead and book some time with Chris.

Their solutions will also improve the MPG too... I think the latest LR sw will but only very slightly as the engine is running more efficiently.

So in answer... yes still very much worth it.

Morning all,
Simon a quick question. Were you chipped to get the change in the engine, or was the car serviced, and a new software patch was uploaded via your regular service?
Thanks,
Duncan

No 'chipping' involved or after market engine ECU mapping done at all.

I met a friendly LR Customer Care chap at the petrol station, got chatting and he offered to come round and load the latest sw revs for the whole D3 from his WDS 13 v5 setup.

New engine sw is documented on GTR and removes the lazyness from the turbo effectively. Engine now far better and far smother, more responsive.

Many of you may already have this loaded of course.

In no way is it a power hike for BHP or torque. Just refined managment sw from the manufacturer.

I would expect you to be able to ask your dealer to upgrade your D3 if you have a good one. Takes 30 mins or so. 1 hr for me as I had many updates done.

Thanks for that. We are due our 15000 service in about a month. I shall have to "chat" to them about it.
