08 discovery with old style oil pump.
Hi all I have a 08 discovery se with 165000 miles I'm in the process of changing the timing belt and rear belt as I could not get confirmation it was done already. I have it all off and I notice it has the old type oil pump that has caused the tensioner to shear off on many vehicles. This I will be changing but the special tools to fit the crankshaft seal cost as much as the pump anyone with some ideas on how to do this job without them. Thanks

I think I just used a large socket of the same size as seal.
I think you leave the seal proud

If you purchase the Victor Reinz front oil seal from AF, it comes with a plastic seal fitting cup for installing the seal correctly. Victor Reinz are oe suppliers to many manufacturers.
As above fit with the tool provided with the seal. it should be inset to the face of the pump by 1mm.. and then use a big socket to knock it home, you cant go to far anyway as there are lugs at the back to stop that.
I would change the water pump as well while you have it stripped that far...….. 8)------------------------------

Oil pump
I have now got a new fomoco oil pump with lots of reinforcement around the problematic fixing point. I have looked on advanced factors web site at there details on fitting the said pump am I to remove the existing gasket under the base of the pump and apply sealant or apply sealant to the gasket and re fit. Sorry if that's a bit of a dim question but don't want to cock it up. I am renewing the timing belt.idlers.tensioner. Oil pump.bolt.seals.waterpump.fan belt.idler.tensioner. Rear belt.and if I have any money left the glow plugs. Thanks

Belts an plugs
Hi all. all the belts an oil pump done. I've got 4 glow plugs out with a air tool and the one next to the fuel pump undone but gets stuck on pump casing is there a way around this as I don't fancy stripping that lot out again assuming I have to remove the rear belt again. And I have I plug stuck solid going to try some freezing fluid on it.
