Thanks everyone for their input- sounds like there is still some good avenues to pursue.. I hear what you say about the turbo, but TBH there was not a great deal of play on the shaft of the original turbo, although the re-con guys did say they found issues with it.
Rather than install turbo number 3 straight away, Is there a chance that the crankcase pressure is pushing oil up the Turbo's oil return. Or maybe the same crank case pressure knackered the seals on the new turbo..
Sorry when I say PCV (Positive Crankcase Valve) I mean Oil Breather.

I think recon guys will tell you anything, but there are some good guys out there , but I think you’re turbo is looking like the culprit the amount of oil coming out 5ltrs the engine only holds 6ltrs so as the previous post take off the pipes and check that the turbo is not to blame crank case pressure that bad would surely blow the dip stick out good luck

If you think about it logically that cant happen as the crankcase oil vapour air pressure will never be as high as the oil gallery oil pressure.
I would start with the basics, like is the oil level actually correct when the dipstick says it is?
Dont forget they hold sod all oil, 5.5 litres Iirc, which is a not a lot for a large engine.

Seasons greetings all! Thanks again for everyone's responses... I have a pressure/ leakdown test pending on the motor..
If it does turn out to be a bad a bad piston ring, then I was wondering if it's worth doing. Is it an engine out, or do you reckon is it possible to take the sump off and access the piston that way. I suppose the crankshaft would have to come out on order to gain enough access, and there is no way with the lump in place?
Have a great Christmas. I may be the happy owner of a Kia Sorento in 2 weeks. Lucky old me...
Boo.
