12v Power to trailer

I've had a search so apologies if I've missed something obvious. Also I'm new to towing and the like so it might be a stupid / obvious question but here goes anyway!

My D3 is fitted with twin electrics. If I'm towing a trailer which only requires single electrics then can I connect to my spare set of electrics and run a lead for 12v power within the trailer. The eventuality I'm thinking of is using all 7 seats and putting the 12v coolbox in the trailer. If there an 'off the shelf' lead with a 7 pin trailer plug on one end that leads to a 12v socket on the other? Are there any complications I've missed. Also while I'm here is there any difference between the two sets of towing electrics in the 'twin' electrics? Is one ignition controlled and the other permanent live?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Yes you can. No problem. eBay has the White socket and the trailer cable (make sure you get the right cable).

There is a perm live as well as an ignition live, just remember that you can easily drain the battery if you run it from perm live.

Search on here for something like +socket +12n there is a diagram of the plug socket. Easy to do yourself. I wired my trailer up to have reverse lights which is on the White socket too.

Thanks Bodsy,

I've found the wiring diagram which will let me know which wire to use. Would it be wise to fit a fuse inline as well or would it be covered by the towing electric's own fuses?

It will be covered by the cars fuses if using the towing electrics.
