12volt tv in caravan?

Any suggestions on how to run a medium size tv from the 12v battery in a caravan?
Scenario, no mains power on site, but I run a 6kva diesel generator in the evening, SWMBO likes to have the tv on in the mornings, I don’t like the genny running with no load or getting out of bed just to start it.
I have a Mains 32” smart LED TV that I’m sure runs on 17volts, is it possible to run it on 18volts(12v + a 6v)?- if so how could I charge the 6volt battery up.
Could I Practically use an inverter? Are there 32” TVs that run on 12volts?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Just use an inverter - all too easy - they are not expensive.

I have got a Inverter and never used it as I was of the understanding they are not efficient and drain the battery fast.
The Ferguson Cello looks to be the answer, particularly as They have a satellite tuner and I have a built in Sat ariel Very Happy
Is there a great difference in power consumption between a 24” and a 32”?
Thanks for the replies. Thumbs Up

You're understanding is not correct. The inverter itself uses little power but you do not get something for nothing - so if your 240v TV uses 2 amps that is 480W - so the battery has to supply 480w so needs to generate 40 amps at 12v - that is where the power usage comes from.

I’m really hooked on the 32” Solar charged version, Perfect And more facilities than I expected.
Do you know what type of battery is fitted and if it charges the battery while viewing on mains?- this information is not given in the description.

Hi Gareth,

I’m looking for a TV for the bedroom in our caravan (end-island Coachman). The one that we have at the moment (an old Teknica) has quite a shallow viewing angle. As the TV is mounted quite high on its bracket, and the placing of the connections doesn’t allow it to tilt very much, And so the picture is quite dark and things that are dark just become a black area when viewed from sitting in bed.

We have an Avtex in the main living area but obviously they aren’t cheap! So, I’ve been looking at a 16” Cello (C1620F) which says that the viewing angle is 170/170 h/v. What is your experience please?

Thanks,

Nigel

+1 for Avtex.....have recently ordered the 24 nch 9 series pro model after seeing it in the flesh...stunning tv and you do get what you pay for...but its bloody expensive!

I have also recently intalled a 24 inch Cello in a friends camper and have to say itis pretty decent...obviously you dont get the very thin aluminium bezel like you get on the Avtex but it still seems to be a pretty decent set and is the third of the price of an Avtex!
