13 pin Towing Electrics

Having just bought a 66 plate D4 I'll need to install towing electrics.

Doing an ebay trawl it appears that there are pre and post 2013 wiring kits.

There also seems to be a £50 premium for the later models Evil or Very Mad

Does anyone know what the difference is between the kits Question

I assume it all wires into the connectors ajacent to Nearside rear lamp clusters.

Does it then need to be 'activated' by the dealer / IID etc

Thanks Thumbs Up

Wiring is identical. I put the 13pin out of my 2010 into my 2016 no problems once enabled with IID. The difference is that there is a different clip to go in the corner of the bumper where the two looms connect together. Can't remember what changed that meant the clip to hold the connectors had to also change. I cable tied a thin sheet of foam around the connectors so they didn't rattle inside the bumper and didn't bother clipping the middle connectors to anything. Been fine for 18 months.

They’ll work without being activated but the rear parking sensors won’t switch off automatically when you reverse with the trailer on.
