15K Service and possibly dodgy clutch |
|
Have an 07 manual XS and its now due its 15k service
Two problems - what should I be paying for a first service and what should i do about the known clutch problems (car falls into the VIN range for the TSB - cant remember which one).
I did complain that it was difficult to select 1st and reverse occasionally when i bought the car and the linkages were checked by the dealer and reported to be ok.
Haven't had any burning smells when towing but i'm not hard on clutches.
Dont really want a clutch to either fail on me when towing or pack in just out of warranty.
Should i force the issue on the clutch - or just wait until it gives problems ?
What would the dealer do - would they just replace the clutch under warranty if the car is in the correct VIN range - or will they try to avoid ?
Thanks for any help.

Yes you pay for the 1st service. In the olden days of new cars when you had the first service at 1K miles it was usually free... but not at 15K
I would push the clutch issue if you really feel its not right. The higher the mileage the less likely it is to get it fixed under warranty.
BTW, just because the VIN range is within the the reported issue, doesn't mean that they will change it automatically.
If you've had no issues, then why do you think it will fail though ?

yes - but what should i be paying for a first service - £200? £400? whats the going rate at the moment ?
Re clutch - yes it will not go into first or reverse sometimes when sitting at lights. Have to blip the clutch and reselect the gears to engage.
The big issue i have is that there is a known problem with the lining when it gets overheated and i dont know how much overheating the previous owner did. It could be fine for 100k - or it could fail next week. Its a potential timebomb that i could do without.
Thanks

Good luck with pushing the dealer with clutch issue. My 55 plate has this problem ( and the burning smell ) and they basically said that it had to fail completely before they would look at it and even then that they would need to be sure that there was a fault. I took this up with LRA and they supported the dealer, the car is now out of warrentee now so keeping fingers crossed !!
