17" wheel substitute ?.

I have 18" wheels on the D3 but the cost of replacing the Wranglers with REAL rubber is astounding. If D2 wheels won't fit... is there another common wheel that will fit such that I can escape the cost of a) fitting genuine LR 17" and b) the cost of fitting 18" REAL rubber as against 17" REAL rubber.

Mud Truck,

You have a couple of options re 17" rims.

I have G Max 17"x8" model M168 (www.gmax.com) with Cooper ST 245/70/17 see gallery- this retains over all wheel dimension. Overall cost for 5 wheels and tyres was $2900. LR quoted $1050ea for genuine wheels.
Also available are Performance Wheels 17"x8" and Speedy Wheels 17x8, Cooper STT's in 245/70/17 also fit as do BFG's in 265/60/17

I was looking at getting a set of 18inch offroad oriented tyres for weekend fun. Does anyone know suitable brands/models and prices?

These are Cooper STT's on 17" on my old D3, they are 80/20 off road configuration.

You will find it difficult to locate 18" off road tyres. I located at least 12 sets for guys on the site originally.
