18" D3 wheels on a D4 3.0 HSE? |
|
I know this has been discussed before, but does anybody have any definitive answer?
My LR dealer has said: "Spoke to the workshop & the parts and we think there wouldn't be enough
clearence for the 18" wheels."
However, one D3 person has said: "one of the guys has a D4. 3.0 litre (GS?) It has exactly the same callipers and discs ( V8 ) as mine so there shouldn't be a problem."
I'm confused...

D3 V8 front discs are 350mm and D4 are 360mm and the D4 also has new callipers, so thay're not the same. BUT, I have not read anywhere yet that someone has actually tried to fit D3 18" rims to the 3.0 D4.

If anyone wants this resolving once and for all, please feel free to drive your D4 3.0 TDV6 to my house and i will see whether one of my 18" 10 spokes will fit, then we can all know once and for all! GraemeS: Thanks for the sizes. I've studied the thread you started http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic38985.html
SJR: that would be great, but unfortunately I'm in Rotterdam on a ship and won't be getting my D4 until I go home fortnight today
Also, well, I'm in the process of buying a set of 18" wheels, but would like to free them up ASAP so the seller can sell them to somebody else if need be....

I'm hoping I can do a test-fit next week.

Not by me, but its been confirmed here in Oz that a D3 18" rim will not fit over the brakes on the 3.0 D4 by a person who has upgraded to a D4 and who had a 2nd 18" spare for his D3. At a later date I will determine by how much it does not fit.

GraemeS: thanks for that.
SJR: doing a test-fit sounds like a great, simple idea. It's just a shame that you're a bit of a distance from me; so here's hoping that GraemeS's experiment will produce results.

maybe someone else nearer to your location who has 18" rims can offer the same option to you if GraemeS has no success I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

SJR: hopefully, yes. I'll post a message in that event. I've already emailed a D3-owning shipmate who lives 25 miles awa who has a D3 asking him what size wheels it has.
