Does the tech mean they physically wont fit or that they cannot be ordered?

By the look of the one at the LR Expo there isn't enough space between the caliper and the 10 inch rim to go smaller.
If someone made a steel 18 inch it may be thin enough to make it.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

CaverD3,
What's your estimate of the gap? It only needs 13mm if the inside of the rim is the same shape.

I'll wait for someone to actually try before deciding against a D4, and even then I don't think I'd have a problem with retrofitting the D3 V8 front brakes to at least fit 18". It might be a bit too obvious to run 17" rims, not that the braking would fail any tests with 17" as it would still be able to activate ABS.

Physically won't fit. However I wonder if an aftermarket 18" rim might go on? There is no way I would ever down spec the brakes.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Maybe GY will make the new MTR with Kevlar sidewalls in 19" which would go part way towards overcoming the wrecked tyre problem.

Possibly , or spacers .
It is not possible to fit 17" on a FFRR L322 but still my D3 aftermarket 17" Performance BB6 fitted my Rangie, so some A/M 18" may fit the D4. (i am afraid they may look badddd, though... )

I was gearing-up to fit 17" to an MY09 but was prepared to settle for 18" on the D4, even with very limited tyre options. Perhaps a/m 18" will fit even if LR ones don't but its a bit late once I've got the vehicle if 19" is the minimum. If LR ones don't fit, they must be very close as an enlarged pic I have suggests there could be a 15mm gap between the calliper and rim.

Re: Do 18in Wheels fit the D4

thanks Martin. I'm interested in the BFG option for my 18" rims as the AT2 Grabber are way to soft.
Do you carry heavy loads? (my offroading is mostly on extended expedition trips) and how does that influence sidewall compression?

18in wheels
Yes, generally quite heavy when touring/offroading. I have a steel drawer set that weighs about 70Kgs, then the fridge which slides in, a 100L long range tank, the rear wheel carrier and mostly its hooked up to an off/road camper (say 80kg in ball load). So once loaded, probably about 300-400Kgs. When on-road I run about 44PSI in the rears and tyres appear to have no more 'bulge' than normal. On rough dirt roads, about 28PSI and one can see some sidewall deflection.
When in serious sand I only need to air down to about 18psi (so a bit more to spare if necessary) to get very good traction as the 65 profile allows a bit more increase in footprint when aired down than do the lower profile 60 series.
I've had no problems with losing tyres off rims at those presssures and a couple of weeks ago we were doing some sand driving with the Toyota Lancruiser club where a couple of their vehicles lost tyres in exactly the same conditions.
Hope that answers it. Now a slight negative. I have the slightest rubbing on full lock in normal height mode. Solution, I aim to put on just slightly less than full lock when parking (that's the only time it happens). It's not an issue though.
Cheers.

I don't have that wheel myself. But from the pictures I've seen, that design seems to have a lot of space for the brake caliper, as the straight spokes are flush with the outer edge of the rim and only curve invard in the centre. And it's made in 18x9. I kind of like it; it's easy to keep clean and it doesn't look half bad in black.
I know spacers have been discussed before, and most people don't like them. But Matzker got TUV approval for them in Germany, so they can't be that bad?

I hope this helps. Definitly no 18inc will fit.
That's what they are offering officially in Switzerland for the D4 (second page). Even if you not speak german you will understand it.
@mod. Should be this topic not in the D4 Section or even a wheel and tyre therad in the D4 section as it seems that the 17'' und 18'' from the D3 not fit, and also alert the 4 owners to the problem.Daniel

Does anyone have the opportunity to see if the PD1880 rim fits?

I proved it myself today that a D3 18" 10-spoke rim fits neither the front nor the rear, with the rear having the greatest inteference. Both callipers have a raised back on the portion outside the disc (I can't see the logic) which at a guess would have to be ground down by at least a few mm. The fins at the rear of the front callipers don't get a chance to scrape and I don't think they would if the raised section at the front was reduced to allow the rim to sit flat on the hub, although the outer face of the calliper might then foul the spokes.
They don't fit and by too much for me to want to try.

GraemeS: thanks for doing that and ascertaining that the D3 18" wheels won't fit the D4 3.0 TDV6.
Oh well, I guess that means SJ's wheels will be up for sale again.
