Do 18" rims fit the 3.0 D4?

I would really appreciate hearing whether 18" rims definitely will or will not fit over the larger brakes on the D4, if someone gets the opportunity to try. If they don't fit, where and by how much they foul could also be useful.
TIA.

seems it fits but LR strongly discourages it.

I have not been able to test them yet on the D4, but please someone try !

No 17/18 inch rims on D4: a disabled 4x4?

Shocked Have been told today that the D4 cannot do 18 or 17 inch rims due to the size of brakes: from a LR dealer principal (who wants clarity from LR). I cannot imagine using the 19" rims offroad Big Cry If this is the position, LR disabled a potentially fantastic vehicle. There are are no suitable durable tyres for offroading/ expedition type driving in the 18" -19" range in my experince & the D4 has entered the realm of the soft bling SUVs. We now the low profiles look good at the Club, but they s Censored k offroad. Unless you have the G4 support team in tow.

I have lost 5 tyres (18 inch AT2 Grabbers) in a year due to sidewall puntures on rocky terrain/ side slopes. It is worst when the vehicle is heavily laden:flimsy sidewalls, compression of the tyre onto the rim and shredded tyres: not enough rubber: 17" rims is a must (BFG).

I do not believe that one could do any extended expedition on 19" rims on rocky terrain or deep sand: I have yet to see the 20" and 19" rims perform properly on deep sand/ dunes or rocky side slopes: if I am wrong, that may rekindle my interest in the D4.

Any D4 owner to proof me wrong? I hope: I do not want to cancell my D$ for this silly reasons1

I think LR have standardised the brakes for both the V8 and the TDV6 3.0 (they were different for the D3) I cannot see why the old V8 size (which fits the 18 inch wheels) would not be sufficient for the 3.0. LR should give theis as an option but allowing a lower spec for brakes may make them scared of lawsuits. Rolling Eyes

Laughing

Mr. Green 8) Lawsuits? The cost of replacing rubber on my 18" rims requires more work/ fee income!! Very Happy

The "lower spec" improvement is meaningless if items such as the vacuum pump and EPB is still going to be packing up (likely), or when the D4 swithches itself off on a challenging obstacle: I wait to see how they handle that one. Some responses from the blingers and posers (also noted on this website) include that one Shocked "abuses" the vehicle if taken offroad.

Caver, have you seen any serious sustained (sustainable) D3 offroading on 19" or 20"s? I have not in my part of the world ...

From LR-published release infomation, LR imply that they have allowed for the fitment of smaller than 19" rims. However as they didn't actually say 18" will fit, I would like someone to prove the point by trying. There must be UK dealerships that have a 3.0 D4 that also have an 18" D3 rim at their disposal to do a test, front and rear.

I think the G4 D3s had 19 inch MTRs on?

Does the tyre placard on the 3.0 list 18" as a possible size?

Do 18in Wheels fit the D4

Well, not exactly an answer. But the BFG's on my 18in rims are going well. 32,000Km's now and a lot of it in off-road conditions. I'd say they are going to be good for at least as much again. Have noticed a bit of gouging from the edges after some fairly serious rock shelf work, but nothing of consequence.

At this stage, I'd certainly consider them again when I eventually have to replace.

Cheers,
Martin

Thanks for the report Martin. They are one of my options if 18" do fit.

Definitely can't fit 18" to the D4 3.0 (confirmed by a Lend Rover tech), if you want a D4 with 18" rims you would have to opt for the base spec GS 2.7
