1st mini detail of 2021
Well after a long winter it was time today for stage 1 of detailing the D3 only had a couple of hours spare so started with the washes and scratch removal having picked up some country lane Mark's over winter.
No where near finished yet but here is the old girl so far.

That’s just like when you’re washing your car and the neighbour passes and says “I’ll bring mine round as well” If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Will follow up with each stage, this is stage 1 decontaminate the paint from winter so today was
1. Rinse with jet wash
2. Snow foam
3. Rinse
4. Snow foam and clay bar.....I'm old school
6. Rinse and dry off with microfiber cloth
7. G3 on a white pad with the rotary polisher to remove the scratches
8. Quick spray wax and polish to protect the paint after the G3. Ran out of time for a proper polish, wax and sealant but that's for next time.
The car is Buckingham blue but looks black has a nice glint in the sun hopefully get some more photos tomorrow.

whats the thing with this word 'detail'?
you're just cleaning the bl**dy thing
don't get it. Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
But cleaning it to a better state than it left the factory! ... then protecting it from the elements afterwards to keep it like that.
They do look nice afterwards .

I disagree, detailing starts where the general cleaning finishes. A normal valet gets a car clean. Detailing a car, correcting paint defects is a completely different thing.

is it worth to think about wet sanding with 3000 grit paper for proper finish before polishing?

If you wet sand you will need a three stage mop to get it back to the perfect shine, I would only attempt if you know what your foing.Andrew

Wet sanding seems a bit overkill unless there are serious paint defects. An aggressive compound with the right pad should achieve good correction then follow up with finer polishes and finish with a good quality wax.
Once you get a good finish with little or no defects it is relatively easy to keep it looking mint but not everyone invests in the time and effort required. For those that do, detailing is very satisfying. I did a 3 stage polish on mine and finished with a good wax. It took a couple of days to do but the result was fantastic.
