AT 2 Noise and Road handling

Hello,

Running Latitude Tour HP on 255/60/18. Done 30K on them and they are fantastic - they've still got a lot of life left in them. They stick to country roads like glue, and are quiet on the motorway.

In the winter, I tend to travel across more muddy fields and travel fewer motorway miles. Also, I spend a lot of time on greasy single-track lanes.

So, I'm thinking of getting a second set of rims and sticking something more substantial on them for the winter.

What sort of life are people getting (mileage) from AT 2?
How noisy are they on the motorway?
Do they have decent road grip?

Thanks,

John

Don't think you can better the AT2 as an all-round tyre IMHO, very low road noise and over 25K tread life. Thumbs Up

Mine is booted with AT2's permanently, road noise isn't much more significant than road tyres, they seem to be wearing pretty well and they have never given me any reason to have doubts about their road gripping ability

Just changed to AT2s as most folk predict longer life.

Road noise - no change
Tyre air nose - with windows open - noticeable
Dry grip - pretty well as good
Greasy wet roads - drift nicely Very Happy
Wet grass/mud - Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green
Rocks - Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green
House end? - I'd lay odds Wink
Sand - anyone? anyone?

Go for 'em
2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Swapped end-of-life Scorpions for AT2s last week. The Scorpions were humming a little towards the end. There's noticeably more road noise on the AT2s at about 60 kph but no great difference at motorway speed and I rather like my Land Rovers to sing as they bowl along. Handling is a little less precise but not enough to regret fitting the tyres. I'm looking forward to taking them off road.

Go for it. Thumbs Up

Mine have done 16K miles now and have 8-9mm of tread left, so should make it to 30K.
I have noticed that they seem to be getting slightly noisier as they get older/more worn, but that may be that they need to be balanced.
They're great, both on and off road. Thumbs Up

You're the second person to mention AT2s getting noisier as they wear (or you've mentioned it twice Embarassed ) - I hope mine don't Big Cry bit if it's a gentle progression I'll probably put it down to age (mine not D3's Laughing ) or deteriorating roads (well - they're not going to mend them now, are they?).

As the tread blocks round off a bit I thought they might go quieter...

Did some sand driving in Iceland and the AT2s, seemed to cope with no problem. Of course I'd never driven on sand before so had nothing to compare with.
