Oh, and the new wheel smelled so nice.... my truck had that new car smell for about a month. Totally worth the hassle of having to get it replaced!

Mine did the same but wasn't leather probably some kind of polyurethane, anyway the complete wheel was replaced by the dealer under warranty.
Had a similar problem with my D2 as well with it also being replaced under warranty
