@ kajtzu: with your suuuuuuuuuperb data networks in Finland surprised you don't just bin the rubbish LR system (mine is now just used for radio station selection) and stick with GoogMaps. I did the 8,000km blast from southern UK to Sortland, NW Norway, and back dual running D4 LR system & google maps, concluded the LR system was so bad I haven't used it since.

I have lots of other stuff to do before redoing satnav Whistle

I’ve read through the modders who put in a Garmin. Came to same conclusion that an iPhone mount would be most cost effective. Also investigated feasibility of just turning off and disconnecting the satnav. Seemed possible. The display I guess I need to keep if I want to use it for a reversing camera via gvif. Haven’t even enabled 4x4 mode yet Wink I’ve had a few really close oopsies that I didn’t have with the D4 because on it I saw where the car’s fat Censored was pointed at... Thumbs Up

the front and rear distance sensors are much worse on the D3. My favorite so far is while stopped at the traffic lights if you have a 18 wheeler next to you the front starts beeping or a worker drills the pavement with a jackhammer Rolling with laughter

I know a lot of people moan about it but to be fair it does what I want and has got me a fair few places here and in Europe without any real problems.

Yeah the UI is a bit dated but it does get the job done.

The UI I could live with, the actual routing, especially if I dared to ignore the routing, was pants. If it thought there was an issue on the UK M6 it would happily reroute to the other side of the country. This would add an hour to the journey, to try and avoid a 2 minute delay. Similarly heading down the E45 in Sweden, then down to the coast, any variation from its route (which was rubbish) it would try and get you back on its route, not the best way to get you to your destination. Yes, it will do the job but it does it so badly it's just not worth bothering with. Thumbs Up

The MY10 Volvo nav was just as stupid, it’s not a LR thing but a HERE/NAVTEQ feature.... Thumbs Up
The MY13 nav, because it has actual TMC data in Finland unlike the MY10 one where someone forgot to pay protection, asks every time the drive could be optimized by 200 meters or a minute. Also it thinks you can turn in places that have been 1-way for years or haven’t had a possibility of turning left for like forever. The map data quality is quite bad.

Haven’t seen the Sensus map system yet in action... disclaimers said Volvo will supply map data at least until 2025. Thumbs Up

would anybody in their right mind actually spend money on a disc for the awful satnav in the D3?

Google maps or tomtom or even Waze make it look like something out of the ark!

Don't waste your money!

Many thanks everyone for their input. It's interesting to read the thoughts of you all.

My thoughts were simply that I had the installed system so I was looking to use it to the fullest extent possible. I've been using the sat-nav in the UK for the last 7 years without difficulty but on my return to Ireland it was apparent the disc I have was so out of date it is next to useless.
