Its been a while since I owned a D3 (Defender 110 for the last few years.)
I'm now living in UAE and thinking of getting a D3 - I refuse to call it an LR3
I have seen a low mileage one owner 2008 V8 HSE for sale, talked to the guy and it has full service history, 10 months MOT, recently replace suspension airbags, new headlining.... A-Bar, Spots, no towbar.
Seriously tempted as it is cheap £4kish.
What do I need to check if I go to look at it? 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

Just the usual, signs of bodywork repairs, leaks -oil and water.
V8 is usually totally reliable as an engine. It's the ancillary stuff like alternator, aircon system that can fail. If it has a sun roof look to replace the sunroof elbows as they rot at the joints with the bodywork in the wings.
Check Invoices, if it has any for work done
Depending on the mileage, sounds a good price to me.

A leaky sunroof and wet carpet is unlikely to be a problem for you!
The V8 is solid. Have a listen to it starting from cold to get an idea on any chain tensioner noise. Look for coolant leaks, as the plastic T section that contains the thermostat will breakdown and need replacing over time. Check the condition of the two serpentine belts. Usual leaks and drips underneath. Some of the vehicles out there - as you perhaps know well - get a thrashing dune or wadi bashing so worth looking for any signs of that (bent stuff, basically). Check the dash for cracks. Once it starts cracking it gets worse quickly. The heat is responsible for that so I'm sure it's present on a lot of D3s out there. AC, as has been said.
One owner vehicle is nice. Tow bar is an easy fit. PAGODA
