Not recommending but I spotted one in Edinburgh with 285 35 22 tyres on chrome wheels............
I checked the ratios later when I returned home and they were pretty close.

You reckon 285 35 22 are better?
Or is it just better to stick to 20"s or get 21"s

I have tried a few different sizes on my D3:
275/40 22 is a little taller than stock diameter, but for stance and filling wheel arch looks a bit thin, gives good ride characteristics and protects 22 inch wheel from pothole damage.
285/40 22 is a little taller than stock diameter, but fills out the wheel arch stance well with no rubbing, again protects the wheel from pot hole damage. Current range rover fitment, as they too realize that 22 inch wheels were buckling on 35 series tyres and gives better ride comfort.
285/35 22 closest to stock diameter fills wheel arch well gives harsh ride feel every bump, but does not protect 22 inch wheel as well as 40 series tyres, big potholes will bend and buckle rim (ask me I know) doesn't rub, very popular tyre.
285/45 22 taller than stock, speedo reads slower by 4mph in mid range very smooth ride does touch wheel arch liner on tight turns or in lowered suspension mode.
Due to weight of vehicle if you inflate to Land Rover pressures, tyre carcass tends to move about and you get uneven wear across tyre, have found through trial and error ( had a few chevy Suburbans that wore tires out until I followed USA practice of inflating tires to max indicated on tire wall that stops uneven wear across tyre and keeps them cooler.
And of course make sure you get a good tyre shop to carry out an accurate 4 wheel alignment.
