The directgov website states:

"The width limit for any towing vehicle is 2.55 metres. The length limit is 7 metres for a trailer towed by a vehicle weighing up to 3.5 tonnes (3,500 kilograms)".

But this is excluding the drawbar.

dadof7kids,
my Coachman twin axle has an overall length of 25ft 10 ins, or for metric chappies, 7870mm. Its completely legal, as it should be being a British made van.
Give the Caravan Club website a visit, there is a very good section in there on legal requirements etc etc.
Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

We made the move about 5 years ago to a 26ft van , following a time with a small two birth we moved to camping for 3/4 years and then bought our current van.

The 26ft is the shipping length , including the a frame , I understand the legal limit to be 7 mtrs but that is not shipping length it is the external body length ( a measurement that not many publish , internal length or shipping length no problem , external body length not seen it written down anywhere)

Not come across anywhere I couldn't get in/out of , although a few have recommended I don't try , all comes down to what you are comfortable with.

The space is great , no need to put awning up if only staying for a short time , not tripping over each other etc.....

One thing I will say is , you have the best tow car !

Cheers and good luck.

I'm with you BarryC! Went to Dorset at Easter with my daughter, partner and 2 kids and their 2 friends. A week of taxi driving, cooking and cleaning...........I had to fit 3 kitchens when I got home and that was more of a break than the holiday!
Re your OP Paul, my vans a 7.96m (total length) twin axle Sterling and I swapped from a tiny 2 berth and I love it. Towing with the D3 is a doddle and is no more hassle than with a small van really. But the extra space and comfort is a bonus when you get there..........unless you fill the space up with 5 kids that is! Banging Head
