This pic was taken at the 170 mile mark on a run this weekend. No tricks, no re-sets whilst coasting down hills etc. There was less than 30 miles of dual carriageway involved for the whole day and the rest varied from reasonable A roads to nasty B roads. We even played about in the snow on some unclassified roads, as well as a few 90mph 'blasts' past lorries on the A9.
When I got home it actually finished on 30.3mpg, but it has since dropped to 29.7 after an overnight stop and a couple of short runs to take the dogs out for walkies.
Anyone who thinks that 18-24mpg is right for this car should try harder!!
Bear in mind, the car is only 1 week old and has thus far done 700 miles in total. I expect it will do better still in a few thousand miles time (and when it gets warmer). I wonder how much difference the Turbochip is making to this - other than the shocked look on the car drivers faces as I pull away at 85mph+
And I thought I was doing well above expectations.
What sort of distance was that average taken over?

I am thinking that the engine tune for the 06 is different. I cannot better an average of 24.9. That is as good as it gets for me over 1000's of miles. I can get a short term tank average of 27 ish, but the vehicle average is stubborn.
Yesterday as I left Stonehenge, I pulled out of the lane behind a black 06 reg TDV6 HSE. (I presume it was an auto like mine.) When we got to the dual carriageway, I thought I would blast him and show him my DISCO3.CO.UK sticker, but he had other ideas and I could not not pass him.
Now this tells me that either I am imagining the loosening up of my car after 40k miles, or the 06 I saw is either chipped or the standard tune is different. It did not smoke either, unlike many other D3's I see.
The only mitigating circumstance is that he was two up, I was five up with lots of luggage, and probably a fair few kilo's of Salisbury's finest

if there is a new tune is it loadable by the dealer ? does it really give better MPG ?

It was after a weekends off-roading in Wales last year. The engine was already warm, I'd just filled up and reset the display and we set off home, a 200 mile trip for me. The first 30 miles or so we were crusing at an average of about 50mph on the A5, towards the end of this section I achieved the 37.4. Once we hit the M54 the speed went up and the consumption went down but over the entire trip (which was motorway all the rest of the way home) I achieved over 32mpg, cruise control locked on 70mph just about all the way
Maybe it was drving in the slipstream of Martins 90 that helped but I didn't think I was that close behind him

Gareth - Have you noticed mine is Turbochipped? Perhaps this makes the difference 8)

So how many miles would you have to drive (at 5mpg better than previously) to get back the £700 you paid to have a TDV6 chipped then?

I never get more than 24 mpg in my Turbochip D3, although that may be an issue with my car (country driving, with and without Miss Daisy).
Apparently (according to my dealer) the variable veins on the turbo have been known to stick on the D3. They are expecting a Tech Bulletin to that effect, coming out shortly. Hopefully that will explain the lack of urgency on my car when gunning it from very low revs, whilst still having a stonking mid-range shove once I am moving moving...

Perhaps we should rename this thread.......
Personally, I reckon it has a lot to do with the lack of congestion and a generally relaxed attitude. Two cars stuck behind a tractor is a 'traffic jam' that gets reported on 'Radio Glenboggle' Also, with scenery such as we have, who needs to go faster than 56mph anyway!! 8)
