50 mph @2000 revs, 6th gear
Just noticed something for the first time this morning when driving away from cold.
1/2 a mile away from the house I hear the high revs in the engine, but am only doing about 50 mph, rev counter was displaying 2000 odd revs , I slipped it into command shift and it was in 5th gear, so I put it into 6th gear and revs dropped to about 2000.
normally I m doing about 70 mph, with engine doing 2000 revs in 6th gear so how did that happen this morning......??? - ps I never touched the high low ratio lever, Ive got a 2007 hse automatic,

Although it might be showing 6th gear, the oil is still cold, so it wont lock into gear so easily. This is to warm the oil up quicker to make it more efficient apparently.Bodsys Brake Bible

normally,
sorry, but how can you drop to 2000 rpm, when you are already at 2000 rpm? The older I get, the better I was.

Oh and when I said I was doing 2000 odd revs, I mean that to be about 2300 but I wasnt sure so gave the 2000 odd "vague" answer.

From a cold start, both 6th gear and torque convertor lock-up are disabled until the ATF warms up a bit It usually takes 2km or so depending on the outside temp. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
