6th Gear Selection on Autobox
I have read in a few places that 6th gear will only be selected on an auto box once the gearbox oil has warmed up. I find that in the morning (when it's colder) on my way to work it goes into 6th quite soonish as there are rural roads (4 miles worth) that tend to make the tranmission shift up and down quite a bit before gettig onto the A roads where it will go straight into 6th once over 55mph and only travelled 4miles
On my way home from work where I'm on the motorway within 2 miles and not as many transmission changes the box will stay in 5th right up to 65mph until Ive travelled 10+ miles.
The more shifts the transmission makes when cooler results in 6th being selected sooner.
is this normal?
Is there a temp sensor that needs cleaning somewhere

Depends on which 'map' the transmission is using at the time. The only temp sensor is in the ECU itself, and this is located within the gearbox sump!
This sometimes occurs on mine, too - I simply select 6th by 'Command Shift', then return the lever to 'D'.Regards,
