7 to 13 pin trailer electrics

can anybody tell me if I can just unplug the 7 pin 12s and 12n socket and replace with a 13 pin socket without needing to get diagnostics plugged in to change the setting

My 13 pin works fine without ever being "enabled".

Nav - You have wandered into the D4 section. Laughing

From memory I believe it works with 7-pin still selected.

Tee Hee! Well, I'm logged in to D3 and the email of your post came from D3, and I've never registered with D4, so it must be a D3 question - or is it an answer?

thanks gents I will give it a go. if it is not happy I can always put the 7 pin 12n back on to get me away. the 12s socket is burnt hence the need to replace it, I don't know what previous owner had running through it to cause damage like that but socket it self melted and two wires in the back burnt through

Melting of 7-pin sockets is very common and I have seen loads of D3s with this issue. Some have even billowed smoke in the process. The problem is due to the socket design and is not confined to the D3.

13-pin is so much better!

that was interesting as certainly one of the wires burnt was the centre earth on mine.
13 pin socket sourced from landrover at £96+vat which is not a bad price in comparison
