7 years on...

Not quite 7 but it's now nearly 6 and a half years old, has covered around 78, 000 miles and is still going strong and used daily. Just given it a thorough wash inside and out - took the best part of a full day. Still no plans to change until something better comes along - not even D4 was worth the cost-to-change (it doesn't look quite as good as ours anyway!). It's the longest we've ever held on to a car.

It's rattling a bit in its old age, the steering wheel is thinning and it's picked up its fair share of marks and dinks but nothing unusual for something that's spent 7 years hurtling up and down the Scottish country roads and through the cities with dogs and families en tow. Still serves its purpose as the rugged & utilitarian beast amongst an increasing number of Bimmers being brought into the family Shocked .

Anyway, during the clean-up I found this 1mm thin piece of silver lodged between the lower tailgate and rear bumper. Hope it's nothing vital but thought I'd check before it's discarded? I'm assuming its come out of the car and not a set of golf clubs or luggage Shocked

Hope everyone is well.

Cheers

Chris

Thats a snowflake tester...................all pre MY 07 D3's were supplied with one, its supposed to be used when the snow gets over a certain depth, 3" from memory, you offer a snowflake through the six pointed star if it passes comfortably you must change the traction control system to snow and ice............failure to do so null and voids your insurance policy Whistle

Yes, the blue one "ECO" is a 6 Series and the silver one is a 3 Series Coupé.

Fuel economy on the 320d is superb - it gets around 55mpg on the long routes whereas the petrol Laguna gets about 35mpg, and the D3 and 6 Series get.... a bit less..... Shocked Quality, drive, comfort, technology, performance etc. are all top notch. The fleet (minus the D3) were all grounded between the months of November and February this year however !!

Are you chopping both D3s? Which BMW are you going for Del?

78,000? I'll have done that in mine by its third birthday!
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

..... and I did more than double that in my 6 years of ownership [163k].

Still looking good though with plenty more miles left in it.

Thumbs Up

SWMBO's D3 chopped in Feb, was going to use my car as "family wheels" but having big time on-going issues with shutting down and ENGINE SYSTEM FAULTs. Doesn't sound too bad til it does it in lane 2 of the M6 up a hill with a truck beside you (no access to hard shoulder) and one charging up the hill behind you! SWMBO's refusing to drive it, we're off to Arran on hols in the Jazz, so it's retired as offroader, expedition & skip trip wagon.

New BMW 520d Touring auto with a few £k of toys on order, delivery June. 50mpg, £110 tax, £400 for 5 years service and hopefully a lot better reliability than I've had from LR. Not worried re winter, still have D3 to play in the snow. Plus at £35k, nice dollop cheaper than a D4, OK D4s at the mo depreciation is pretty good but when the Market comes to it's senses that won't last. Mr. Green Whistle

That D3 looks immaculate! Nice to see an original 1 owner cat for nearly 7 years! Shocked
I would still have my D3 if it wasn't for a job change which made my buy a more fuel efficient Audi due to double the miles! Then the D4 came out..... And I caved in! Mr. Green
