A/c compressor fubared advice required please

I’ve had it confirmed that my a/c compressor is kaput but then again after 13 years and 240k it’s been faultless, question is do I go new, second hand or refurb and where is best to get it, I’m going to change the o seals on the pipes I remove but as there are no leaks should I do anything ekse

If you are going to keep the vehicle It would be no harm to replace the pipes as well, since you're removing them anyway. Used compressor is a tad risky as you will not know if it works til you have fitted and filled the system, but might be worth a punt if you do not plan on long term continued ownership. Otherwise I'd go new as I consider used parts a false economy, to say the least.

not an easy job to fit, so you wouldn't want to fit a faulty 2nd hand item.

Then again a genuine one is prob a fing lot of money.

I dunno!

A brand new OEM unit is less than £300, last time I checked. If the price is the same, I'd fit a new one. Its not a job yoy want to be doing twice Laughing

Yeah you could do old style ones .

Old types had 5 pistons in them.

Don’t know about disco ones, as they are different.

No its not cost effective, if you ever strip one down they are a work of art inside and they are built to very tight tolerances that make it cheaper to produce new than to rebuild.

I fitted a Dunlop compressor to replace my Hitachi. The best price I could find was £270 plus VAT from Advanced Factors which is a little cheaper than the Denso one linked to above from Island 4x4. In addition, you'll get the 5% forum discount that will bring the price down further.
