accessories off the second stop start battery? |
|
Is it possible to power accessories such as a dash cam off the secondary stop start battery when the ignition is off rather than the starting battery? Would this cause issues? Good bye untrusted p38

Yes, the second battery is charged via the Power Supply Distribution Board, it monitors the battery voltage on the main battery and works out the number of stop/starts carried out and then applies charge as necessary. It can't monitor the voltage of the small battery so anything that's draining it could, in theory cause a failure to restart when it's important that it works such as a busy intersection. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

i thought the main battery was the cranking battery and the small battery was for running all the electronics when the engine was stopped? Good bye untrusted p38

The starter motor has two separate supplies to it. One from the smaller battery and one from the main battery. The starter solenoid can be engaged without the motor running so it's important both batteries are needed.
There's room in the back of the vehicle to put another battery and there's no reason why you couldn't feed the dash cam from the feed to the rear battery after the split charge relay. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
