Additional front side-light

When opening up the cover on the headlight to replace a side-light bulb I found there is a second side-light bulbholder wired in. There is no bulb fitted, which is not surprising as it is a blind hole. If it was drilled out at the bottom the bulb would appear behind the vertical amber reflector.

On close inspection of the reflector from the outside there is a short section in line with where the bulb would appear that is lens not reflector. Has anyone drilled out these and fitted a bulb? Did it work and give a front side marker light? Does it come pre-drilled on the NA specification vehicles?

Done this on my halogen units Stuart, but found that the normal 501 bulbs didn't last very long due to heat build up and then blowing the eliment. I was going to try some 501 LEDs in them, but ended up buying new Xeons instead off of Slimer on here.

Alan, couple of questions:-
Q1 - Did you just drill through where the bulb-holder fits, or did you have to strip the light cluster down first?
Q2 - What physical size of bulb will fit? I see LED sidelights in varying lengths with varying number of actual LEDs in the cluster.
Q3 - was the effect worth the work?

I didn't manage to drill through the blanking section, so i het up a drill bit and melted, twisted it through the blank section.

The LED i would have looked for would be as short as possible to leave some clearance.

As for effect and was it worth it, that will have to be an individuals own choice. Laughing
