Advice - Brownchurch Roof Rack on Standard Roof Rails
Ok - some advice please, I have a very strong (and in good condition) Brownchurch roof rack - it's this model
http://www.brownchurch.co.uk/images/91-NL-D.jpg
What I am thinking is if I use wide U Bolts to attach it at 3 points on each of the roof bars, so it will look like this:

It's just resting on at the moment, do I need to put one more roof bar in the middle to help support the weight and where can I get wide U Bolts to strap it on?
Looking at the Brownchurch website they have this one that looks as though it attaches straight to the roof-rails, I have emailed to see if they can just supply the feet.

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.
Or should I just sell it and buy a LR Expedition one?

You may need to move it forward a bit so you can open the tailgate, unfortunately then you'll need to support the front a bit more which means making brackets to fit the lower mounts.

Whats on the bottom of the legs that are resting on rails
My thoughts if not succesful with Brownchurch is to buy the LR fixing kit which is sold seperate, was about £45 and then make fixing to join rack. They only have 4 fixings points and no middle bar so would of thought middle support unnessacaryD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

In this image the feet I made can be seen a little clearer. Between the feet and the rails is a piece of old rubber footwell mat that I cut to shape. In the rails is a piece of 30mm wide Stainless flat bar with two bolts welded through it. This then gets clamped up under the lip of the rails when the nuts are tightened.

I always over eingineer things, so wanted to go with the 6 higher mounts plus the 2 lower ones, but would want at least 6 overall for a rack that length and would be concerned about the overhang at the front with no support, but hey, as I said I always over engineer stuff.
Oh, and remember the rails on a D3 are closer together at the rear of the car than towards the front, so the width of any feet need to be made specific to a position on the rack.
I'm South of you in Hampshire if you want to come and take a look. The basket spends most of it's time hanging up in the garage so it would be easy to take some measurements from.

Nasher - thanks ref position - its just touching the rear when open where it is in the photo, so I would move it forward 1cm to be safe. I'll study you photos ofr the mounts - will PM if I need to measure up. I am like you and think it needs at least 3 mount per side and I like the idea of bracing the front, whats the foot screwed into, when you remove do you just put a blanking bolt in?
MacLeod 313 - thanks, agree excellent rack and some £400 new for this 2m now, I am not going to get that 2nd hand and for the price of an expo one this may be the best option - when considering how much use it might get.
lespes - do you know the part number of the fitting kit you are referring to - that's the sort of money I wiould like to spend to get it to work?! It might help keep it low as per the Brownchurch specific rack I had in my first post.
Overall I think - keeping it low helps stability and makes it look neater, a fast on/ff system will be better for me, cheap is good having just bought 4 19" mud tyres and still needing some rims...... and I need 4 new road tyres......
Another question - does anyone make a rack spoiler - to at least reduce some of the drag on the front of the rack?
thanks for advice chaps.

There are mounts for the LR Expedition rack hidden under the Black trim pieces, but you also need to make up a spacer to use them. And yes, I have some very low profile stainless steel pan head screws I put in as Blanks when not using the basket. I was going to get some spare trim pieces but didn't bother in the end.
The above will become clear if you do a search on here for information on mounting the LR rack as there are several threads with images of the front mountings etc.

Number as on invoice but looks like an L in front not needed.
Try this, Rimmers seem to have only the one fitting kit listed
