Advice on D4 SatNav - How can I improve it?

Hello Chaps,

I am getting slightly (very) frustrated with my 2016 D4 Landmark Sat Nav. Mapping is up to date.

Previously in my D3 I have Mod my Garmin Nuvi and it was epic...

With the D4 I find it really challenging to predict and find the directions/junctions very hard to judge. Does anyone else find this? It also select inefficient route and slow as hell!

My Question:

1. Is there any way to improve the current Sat nav.
2. How do I hard wire my Garmin to the right side of the Dash?
3. Can you Mirror an Garmin onto the LR Main Screen?

TIA

I use Google maps on my phone, in a cradle next to the sat nav screen. Much better than LR nav.

I use a Brodit mount. It's a D4 so it fits just to the left of the instrument binnacle by the air vent.

Brodit are very good indeed, and usually have a custom made mount for virtually every car I have ever owned.

I also use a Brodit mount and a combination of Apple Maps for nav and CoPilot for traffic announcements.

I think Iggy (Iguana) found a discount code for Brodit the other day.

Try turning off the TMC, if it is on it routes round any congestion.
I find it almost the same speed as my tomtom.

From Owners manual

TMC events ahead on route can be displayed by touching the Events ahead soft key. TMC can be set to display on the map for all events, for major events, or can be switched off. During route calculation, avoiding events is set to On by default.

Does Google Maps use Data on your phone or is it just GPRS?

It uses data, but not too much. Avoid satellite display, use map display. Also I believe if you program your route on wifi in the house, it downloads the maps for the route. It's only the traffic it live updates. Might be wrong on this but this is how I understood it.

Another thing with Google maps. It uses a lot of battery, my phone actually gets hot when using it! I need to keep it plugged in whilst using it, and it keeps it charged up.

I find that it very phone dependant. I have an IPhone 5s which is great for GPS signal reception even through the heated screen. I also have a Sony Experia work phone which is rubbish at picking up GPS.

iPhone plays voice via Bluetooth, Sony won't do it. (Something to do with a bug in Google maps on Android)

Thanks. Will take a look at the Brodit.

So much for the "all singing, all dancing" Landmark! Whistle
