I found that out the hard way Big Cry first D3 05 reg 184,000 miles full history engine purred, usual stuff to change as of age flexi brake pipes full set of pads discs and rear drums brakes and suspension arms all done by me so I saved in one way. That car was wrote off so didn’t have enough to spend and brought D3 05 150,000 miles not as much history belts was done but wasn’t comfortable so changed them all and the oil pump to moded one, good job as it was old style now have engine system fault sounds like a Massey ferguson and believe it’s injectors and intercooler pipes Whistle check everything when looking and if you not sure take someone with some knowledge
Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Cheers , so I need as much history as possible, what kind of price would you be looking at for a 2008 / 2009 ?

Only you can answer that, if you are happy with the price and the car buy it.

One thing to bear in mind is the cills are starting to go rusty as the plastic cill covers trap the dirt and moisture, I would say 07/08 is still okay.

Other is the tax difference between pre 06 and post 06 its not huge in the scheme of things but when you are paying 570 quid per year on a car thats maybe worth 10k now and in 4 yrs will be half that at best, that 570 quid starts to look like a lot of money on such a low value motor add on another couple fof years and it will be getting close to a third of the cars value!

There are lots of posts on this forum about the things to look for when buying a D3, click on the Search function above.

These are great cars and will last a long time if properly looked after - servicing and maintenance!!

Be aware that a lot of posts on this forum are from owners who have run into problems, the lucky ones who suffer no major problems tend not to post to say "everything is running well".

With the age and mileage you are looking at then belts and oil pump are a must, check receipts for work done. The more receipts suggest an owner who has looked after the car.

Keep an eye on the For Sale section of this forum, cars come up for sale and you know that, if they are for sale on here, they have been looked after and cared for and lots of money and TLC spent on them Very Happy

Re oil pump casing. My D3 is a 55 plate and had the weaker design on it. But put a new oil pump on it last month when I did the belts for the second time. So not all 55 plates had the stronger design it seems

yes, pre 2008 had the older design.

The 2007 models (and some 2006) ones were partially weak and prone to failure

Appreciate all the input so far and hopefully more posts will follow. So from what I gather 2008 onwards had the better Oil Pump fitted ? Regardless I would have it done again once I source the one for me.

Apart from Autotrader is there any other sites i can find D3’s for sale ?
