Advice reqd ! D3 V8 brakes on a TDV6 ?

Hi,
Just need to pick several peoples brains ref fitting the bigger brakes & to a 18" wheeled XS

Ideally I'd like to fit the EBC disks that paddock have with some pads to match
First & foremost they look good Shocked
Secondly and having used EBC brake disks & pads before they work.

So the question is ?

Are the V8 brakes overkill & will they under an 18" Alloy or do I need 19" HSE wheels.

In anticipation.
Thanks

You need 19" for sure. The V8 brakes are brilliant. Have them for two months or so ; won't do without anymore.
Just go and get standard LR kit. You need some kind of "saddles" to fit in between the claws and their old fixings. Use standard LR pads and V8 disks. Cheapest solution and sure will fit and work.. Wheels are the costly bit... Rear discs V8 ; don't bother...

no you dont, the V8 discs are OK on 18" rims, its just 17's you cant fit. Its only Brembos that need 19" rims.

All you need are the V8 discs and the caliper brackets, although these are about 70 quid if I recall, so the terrafirma discs and ebc pads might be a cheaper way of going. Its the one I'll consider when changing my front discs. I had the V8 set up on my old TDV6. It wasnt really noticeable until I had a courtesy TDV6 standard car, and then you knew it was better.

if you do V8 rears you will need the wider V8 Pads, if you are after rear V8 brackets let me know I may have a couple somewhere.

Hi
I did this conversion last year and there is no gain from using grooved or drilled discs on the D3 so save yourself some money.

if you want to upgrade use the LR V8 discs with the v8 caliper carriers the discs are the same size apart from the surface area is bigger there is no difference in the pad sizes they are the same as the V6 hence you still use the V6 calipers
The only thing I did was speak to EBC's technical department and they have advised me to fit yellow stuff SUV pads because of the weight of the vehicle and not to fit Geen stuff pads.
If you are pushing on this makes a huge difference and pulls the D3 up quite quickly.
cheers

Needless to say Im on it now, ordering discs and yellow stuff pads later Thumbs Up

Chalky - dont forget to order V8 caliper brackets as well.

Mike - I also did the V8 updgrade on my old TDV6, and whilst the price of V8 discs was fractionlly cheaper than TVD6 discs (both genuine LR), the brackets were, if I recall, about 70quid for the pair. This is why I was considering the drilled/groved Terrafirma TDV6 discs, as these are the same price as genuine LR TDV6 discs, and then fit some EBC pads.

This is probably something that I will be doing in the near future as I will need to change both discs soon, but the last few posts have just confused me Big Cry (ok - it was just the post from CG that threw me off track) Laughing

Checking the part numbers I've come up with these for the TDV6 and the V8:

FRONT BRAKES
Discs: TDV6 -> SDB000604........V8 -> SDB000614
Calipers: TDV6 & V8 (left/right) -> LR010394/LR010395 (service exchange parts)
Caliper brackets: TDV6 -> SEH500012, V8 -> SEH500011 (up to 6A388290) or SEH500013 (after 6A388290)
Pads: TDV6 & V8 -> SFP500010

REAR BRAKES
Discs: TDV6 -> SDB000636........V8 -> SDB000646
Calipers: TDV6 & V8 (left/right) -> LR010575/LR010574 (service exchange parts)
Caliper brackets: Up to 6A388290, TDV6 -> SXP500010, V8 -> SXP500011.....After 6A388290, TDV6 -> SXP500013, V8 -> SXP500014
Pads: TDV6 & V8 -> Up to 8A999999, SFP500140.....after 9A000001, TDV6 & V8 -> LR016808

I'm will be changing both front and rear brakes to the D3 petrol V8 versions that will fit inside 18" wheels. (Not the RRS Supercharged Brembos that need 19" to clear the calipers).

So....looking at these part numbers and reading the comments from the chaps in this thread, these are the differences (in blue) between the TDV6 and V8 versions in terms of performing and upgrade:

FRONT BRAKES
Discs: New V8 front discs needed (they are larger than the TDV6 front discs).
Calipers: Can re-use the existing TDV6 front calipers
Caliper brackets: New V8 caliper brackets needed (to accomodate larger discs)
Pads: Standard TDV6/V8 pads? (they are the same anyway)

REAR BRAKES
Discs: New V8 rear discs needed (they are larger than the TDV6 rear discs).
Calipers: Can re-use the existing TDV6 rear calipers
Caliper brackets: New V8 caliper brackets needed (to accomodate larger discs)
Pads: Standard TDV6/V8 pads (they are the anyway)

The above blue comments coincide with what the others have said Thumbs Up

Apologies for the long post, but it's a good exercise to get as much concrete info as we can before people go buying things....(such as me Mr. Green )

Cheers,
Paul

Paul - as I only did the fronts, then your correct, its just the V8 discs and the caliper brackets you need. TVD6 and V8 pads are the same.
