Welcome back dude - must have a tea party in celebration . Same place same time on Friday ?

BTW what was your consumption like .

Had my long range tank fitted last week and managed to squeeze 187 l into the car . Wondering what range that will give me in overlanding conditions

Hi Heine

I think a Friday afternoon tea party is in order. Thumbs Up Let's see if we can drum up some support?

My consumption for the entire trip of 6000km was 15.6l/100km. Only about 2000km was serious off-roading deep sand and low-range work, and the rest was relatively ok gravel or tar. In the deep sand I reckon 20-30l/100km is about what you get. On the way to Ondangwa, we got 15l/100km on the tar, but were towing a heavy trailer and traveling about 140, with the roofrack and the STT's adding to the drag.

With the additional tank, you can bank on 1000km in any conditions, and probably close to 2000km on tar if you don't have a rack on. We did notice the extra fuel aft of the rear axle made for interesting handling over big bumps, so would try pump fuel across to the main tank as soon as possible.

Deondef - we only towed the trailer to Ondangs then got rid of most of the load. We would have loved to have weighed the vehicle, but as far as I calculated, at the very beginning we were carrying about 100kg in the rear tank, 270kg on the roof (spare wheel, 4x full jerrycans, 60l water, airjack, 50l petrol for the boats) 2 fridges full of meat, beer packed in every crevice, 2 packets of peanuts, and of course a couple of tents, clothing, equipment etc. all in all I reckon we were about on the limit or slightly beyond.

Hi Baben
Can you please tell us more about the compressor that overheated, why it happened and what message did the computer give?

Herman - we were traveling about 50km/h hence the suspension kept lowering itself, and I kept pumping it back up every time we slowed, this carried on for about an hour, then the suspension icon flashed red and the message was something like "suspension failure - max speed 30" After a couple of beers to cool down (10 minutes) all was OK again.

Deon - I know, but in the real world we need to carry more than just the spare wheel up top

Glad you are back with good news on the performance of the D3. Would like to see your pictures. How did it happen that you got the suspention compressor to overheat?

Is the compressor FUBAR or are you going to keep using it

Does any one have more information about the self-lowering suspension and the possibility of changing the speed at which the car lowers; I heard a rumour that there is a German ''chip'' that can address our problem?

I also saw something about that but I think it was expensive . Elton from Turbochip was also supposed to be querying it with them to see if they could add it in on their map
