Which brand brake calipers

So it seems that known brand rear brake calipers for the D3 are hard to come by at the moment for some reason. All I can find as a known brand (TRW) is the left side caliper. The right is a mix of stuff I have never heard of or the usual Britpart/Bearmach/Allmakes lottery.

I wondered what folks on here would do and so have set up a poll of the available options.

Pointless reconditioning them. It doesn’t seam to address the problem part

I'd just get a caliper, put it on, make sure it pushes out on the pedal readily and pushes back in easily and doesn't leak.
I know some people have had issues but I've changed about 20 brake calipers on various vehicles not had an issue with any whether they be main dealer supplied or eBay.

I changed an offside hub today and whilst at it did the front discs and pads
the genuine calipers were sticky but during lockdown I cleaned up an old set of genuine calipers and had new pistons and seals at the ready all went together very nicely.

Bought the Meyle discs and pad kit from Advanced for a change

I have now three einbachs on mine, two added this year and one a few years ago. No complaints and the price is quite all right.

Fitted an Einbach one on the back of ours as there were no TRW in stock. Seems fine. Better to have one that works than one that’s seized whatever brand - can’t help ABS/HDC work better when they’re sticking.

D3 britpart fronts 7 yrs ago
D3 britpart rears several months ago
90 britpart rears 2 sets in 11 yrs

All have been trouble free, 90 only had two sets as used so little they started to seize.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. So I have gone with the majority vote in the end. I also spoke to Paul at AF about the Einbach brand and he says that they are their own brand products and mentioned the QC that they need to meet to be able to be sold in the UK which adds some reassurance.

I am afraid that I simply couldnt bring myself to part with money for Britpart brake products - I have seen too much of what they peddle crumble like cheese or simply not fit to trust them with brake products. I didnt say that earlier so as not to bias the poll! But it is interesting that some of you have had success with them!

I can understand your reticence regarding Britpart as their components can vary considerably when it comes to quality. In recent years though it seems they have got much better across their range, and their calipers for D3/4 are actually quite good. (easily up to the original LR caliper) I took a chance on them about 5 years back for my own D3 before fitting to a customers car. They continue to perform perfectly to this day and without issue.

I have since fitted well over a dozen of them, again without issue. It's one of the few Britpart components I do fit with confidence Thumbs Up

I found that the original TRW rear caliper pistons started to ‘stick’ and were heavily corroded at a relatively young age, ( like a lot of items on JLR vehicles) Shocked …..garbage tbh. So gave the Britpart ones a try, and they are still fitted and working well after 7 yrs or so. If I ever need these replacing, I may well try the Einbach ones next time.

I generally agree with the idea to change for new calipers, but I have done both my rear calipers with pistons and seals from Big Redd.

Only took about an hour each side, the piston gaiter is a bit tricky, but once you get the knack, it's not to bad.

We've fitted hundreds of Britpart calipers, without issue, as well as discs and pads

Britpart were a bit of a laughing stock 10-15 years ago, but completely different company now Thumbs Up
