Air Suspension hidden mode

Hi all,

I took my LR4 which just owned 2 weeks ago for a long travel (about 3000km), I really enjoy the trip, man...this car didn't stop surprising me from time to time, way better than my old 1999 Range Rover. I noticed a slightly lowered hight when cruising on long roads...is the car lower itself more than the standard hight during high speed? I do remember in my old RR, there were 4 modes for its air suspension, one was the high-speed (less drag) mode, is there a similar "hidden" mode in the Discovery? Any idea?

Also, I wished the tank was capable of taking more fuel...83 liter is not ideal during long travel in my opinion, my old RR tank was 100 liter. Is there a way to increase it, or install another one?

thanks a lot! Smile

I thought the D3, D4, RRS all lowered at high speed - but thought it was over 110mph or something like that. never really bothered checking the facts as I never get chance to drive at that speed anymore..

Yep, the suspension lowers the car at higher speed to a height between access and standard. Don't know the exact speed this happens, but when i leave the german autobahn the suspension often raises to std height.

If yours lowers at 50mph there is something wrong Shocked Wink Should only drop below normal height when driven for more than 5 secs at + 103mph ISTR Thumbs Up

This is what the boys say at LR for my old 2006 FFRR, so I presume this is what happens with all air suspensions...

Low Profile/Motorway -- an inch (0.8 inch or 20 mm) below standard; selected automatically above 50 mph (62 mph ) unless inhibit switch is depressed. Confused

My D3 handbook says the suspension will lower if over 103 mph for 3 seconds.

I have always wanted to check this but when ever I have tried to go over 103 for 3 seconds I have always bottled it (as good as the D3 is, driving a 3 ton brick at 103 mph makes me loos my nerve)! Smile

Thanks all. So, with this..the air suspension has 5 modes; this hidden one plus the extended mode, I wish all are controllable Wink but I could not find any thing about this in the manual except the extended one.

How many of the above if any can be modified by the famous 3 diagnostic tools? - and which make adjust what?
The answer to this question can sway the make that is purchased, I do know the IID will adjust the height, but will it adjusts the speed that motorway height automatically operates?
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi M3DPO,
No, the IIDTool will not do that - yet, anyway. We are considering it - as well as allowing a mild raising of the off-road hight limit (mild=like 60kmh rather than the OEM 50kmh).
We are a bit worried about liability...

BTW, you related to C3PO?
