Aircon dead

I have been through the aircon threads and had a look at the system.

It was working, seemed a bit warm but chilled slightly and now isnt working at all. Thats over the course of three weeks or so. Its trying to do its thing - fans work and increase as you turn the temp down etc.

Having a play today, there is no clicking from the compressor at all as I turn the air con on and off in the cab. The two pipes from the compressor are pretty hot. The small diameter one is very hot to touch, the other cooler, but but cold at all.

Is this pointing to a leak and low pressure hence the clutch not coming on on the compressor? Its due an MOT soon. I usually do my own mechanical work, but cant really pressurise and aircon system so may have to ask the garage to investigate for a leak?

I have a Hawkeye Total - is there anywhere to look in there for anythign relevant - i have had a search around but cant find anything to give any clues.

this are variable compressors so I haven't heard them click like old ones.

read live values of air con pressure. should be over 100 psi.
yours sounds like is leaking, Get dye in it and inspect

First step is to go have the system pressure tested
IIDtool can read this live value, not sure about other diagnostic tools

Could be as simple as needing a re-charge, or as bad as needing a new compressor

When mine was acting up, the shop said it had only 25% charge
All is good after a fill
