last weekend with the hot weather , I switched on my aircon and got no cool air.......D3 HSE
went to Kwick fit for a recharge and they done it but got no improvement, in cooling. They took about an 1/2 hour with car on the machine, evacuated the system to remove old gas, pressure checked, and refilled.......
They are not trained to troubleshoot a faulty system, so I didnt get charged the £49 fee.
So, before I put the D3 into a garage, what is easy enough to check out diy? I dont think theres a leak as the pressure test was okay.....

Just got the quote for my HSE - front to rear pipes corroded (as suspected).
Air con pipes x 2 @ £ 128.97 = £ 257.94
Specialist service/ re-gas air con £ 60.00
Labour £ 141.00
Total £ 458.94
VAT @ 20% £ 91.79
Total value £ 550.73
Warranty is with Auto Protect but don't know yet what their response will be.

hmm, do most people not use their air con in cold weather? I use mine to keep warm in winter and cool in summer! The temperature dial always sits at 21 degrees

hughes - you can do the former with knackered air-con, but not the latter. Your climate control will still heat the car in winter, whether the aircon is working to dry the air or not.

Looking for advice. My D3 HSE (reg Dec 06) has suddenly lost cooling on the climate control. I don't use it much for chilling, but it seems to be the only way to keep the windscreen clear in murky, damp weather.
Looking at other posts, it looks as if the most likely cause would appear to be loss of coolant through a corroded pipe - is that the most probable cause or should I consider anything else (the fuze is OK!)?
If the consensus is as I suppose, is it worth going to my LR dealer (Stratstone), or would a specialist Aircon company be as good/better for less?
If anyone can recommend a good company in the Cheltenham of Gloucester area, that would be great!
Thanks
Richard

If it suddenly went (as I think mine did) then it probably is a fail and could well be the pipes.
Simplest way is to get a pressure/leak check done by any AC provider. Some have gone to Kwik Fit for a regass on the basis that if it doesn't work, you pay nothing - seems to good to be true
Be aware that if it is the pipes, it's unlikely to be a cheap fix (see my previous post)

Gulp, sounds as if it could be pricey - you'd have thought they would have used more durable piping in a vehicle which is supposed to be one of the robust around!
I don't know if it was 'sudden' as such, it just didn't work the first time I tried to use it this year.
I don't have a warranty either - at about £800 it seemed too much, but with this and a Bluetooth problem right now, they could add up to more than that - false economy??!!

Hi Buda
I checked fuse number 51 in the glove compartment - that's the only one I could find in the handbook which referred to the aircon. I don't know much about this, I'm just a basic DIYer, I haven't worked on any of my cars for probably 30 years. Nowadays you look under the bonnet and can't even see the battery, let alone the engine or fan belt!!!!

If you have rear aircon then it is quite common to find that the pipes near to the back wheels have corroded, do a search and you will find plenty of examples. I don't have rear aircon and have always found it ok in the UK but it has struggled in any prolonged higher temperatures in Spain or Morocco. A re-gas has helped but I have still not been very impressed with it.
One thing that has recently improved the aircon though is replacing the pollen filter. I expected this to have been changed in previous services, or at last every other service. I guess there is always the chance that it has been "overlooked" even if I have been charged for it. Not sure if it causes a problem if you just take the pollen filter out to see if that improves things, alternatively you could just price one from TLO.
When I have had mine tested before they could measure cold air coming out of the vents, but I guess there was just not enough of it as the pollen filter was restricting it.
What I have also found, by buying a "external" car thermometer and poking the sensor just inside the vent, you get the coolest air coming out of the front vents if you select the face level vents, + recycled air and have the fan set to 3 or 4 lights, any higher and the air is not getting a chance to be cooled as it passes through/over the condensor.

Thanks Davro
I do have rear aircon, so I guess its probably a pipe problem. Having the aircon off or on makes no difference to the airflow (which is good), nor the temperature at the vents, so it would seem that there is no cooling effort at all.
By the way, whats 'TLO'?

thanks Tela, Ill get time to check the fuse tomorrow, I hope theres no pipe problems as it sounds too expensive, hopefully the fact that kwick fit said the pressure test was okay means no pipe corrosion issues, for me.

Same problem for me. A section of pipe went and being replaced on 5 th May. Chances are it will be cold then!
My aircon is never off as it keeps me fresh come rain or shine.
Wouldn't hold your breath for a warranty claim unless it is within the original 3 years. If a specific part is not listed it is not covered! Mine failed the mot on bushes in the rear suspension. As bushes are not listed in the booklet they were not covered! Needless to say I have not renewed the warranty and have written to the Land Rover approved warranty company and told them their warranty is a scam. I await their response!
Regards
Chris

Not what, but who.....
Forum member 'The Large One', he's the parts manager at Yeovil Landrover and gives a discount to other members.
Nice bloke, good service
If you're in Glos, have you tried Tim Fry Landrovers in Battledown, Cheltenham?
Cheers,
Garry

I've just bought an 05 HSE and the aircon is not cold at all, I'm taking it to a specialist auto air con place in Coventry that was recommend to me, they said they will do a full diagnostic check.
Hopefully it will just be a regas, but looking at the last service, the pollen filter was changed, so im assuming it's not going to be good news
