alarm going off none stop

The alarm on my discovery is driving me insane. It goes off when I open the doors, when I open the bonnet, it goes off none stop when I leave the key in the ignition and the engine wont even crank. Would anyone have any idea whats going on???

Usually the bonnet sensor is the problem with alarms but I don’t think it prevents cranking - it only makes the alarm go off at random times. I had that on my D4 and the whole neighborhood knew about it, too, in the middle of the night.

Really weird problems with electricity are sometimes water related, so, might you perhaps have the water around the cabling somewhere? Is your cabin air filter wet or the carpets?

It would be VERY useful if you had a code reader around somewhere to query what the vehicle thinks... Whistle

Is your car battery healthy?

The jeep has been sitting unused for quite some time. The battery was dead but was swapped for a good one. The key battery is also dead as the buttons don't lock/unlock. I can't leave it in the ignition to charge at the moment because of neighbours and the alarm constantly going off.

Dead battery can cause all sorts of issues. If your key is dead also perhaps the immobiliser doesn’t recognise the key ?

I was thinking the same. I just hope its not a problem with wiring.

First thing is to get a quality replacement battery in the key. You'll then have a good signal to the car system.

If you can get the car plugged in, that will likely give you an idea where to look and may well pinpoint your problem.

The D3 key fob battery charges when the key is inserted into the ignition. Replacing the battery in a D3 key isn’t so straightforward as in with a D4. In the former it is soldered to the PCB, in the latter its a simple job of replacing the CR battery.

Ok. Does the alarm system have to 'see' the key to disable the immobiliser?
Unlocking without the button can cause all sorts of issues. Worth disabling if possible (like on a D2).

The suggestion to take a look at the key is a good one, IMO. I think the battery on it is only used for remote locking/unlocking operations. Mechanical, opposed to electronic, unlocking of doors doesn’t really disable the alarm. What disables it is AFAIK inserting the key into ignition and cranking. This would imply that the key needs to be recognized by the vehicle somehow - communication over ISM band would be my guess. I’ve looked at the comms when opening/closing doors with a software defined radio out of curiosity but haven’t done that when starting the vehicle.

I’m not aware of a way to disable the alarm completely. Only thing I know that can be disabled is interior/tilt alarm sensors (if present) by pressing the lock button twice.

I would still suggest that the OP have a code reading done even if it seems like the root cause would be faulty/dead key (at least) as we all are guessing Whistle

Ok guys Ive had a key guy out and he says the one and only key I have is dead. He tried to program a new key to the jeep but no joy. Is it possible to program a key to the jeep without having a working one present or am I looking at a trip to Land Rover?
