Alde wet CH system

Really looking forward to spending a few days in the new caravan from tomorrow till Sunday, also looking forward to trying out the Alde wet CH system for the first time Wink . Clearly no experience of the Alde system yet but hoping to run it on gas so that I can use the site electrics on a couple of awning heaters. I have a drop down locker inside the awning with one of the radiators just inside the locker and I plan to leave the locker open during the evening to try and capture some of this heat in the awning as well. Need to read the book now on how to set the programmes. I can programme it from anywhere on my iPhone, but that might be a bridge too far till I get the hang of it Thumbs Up

we have Alde heating - I was sceptical at first but its very good. it takes a while to heat up but is very controllable and heats the entire caravan. plus you can programme to come on and off like a normal CH system

running for a whole weekend in temps of around 10c we used 4kg of gas , that was on a CL with no EHU and we used the shower in the van each day as well.

its quite hungry on the gas Crying or Very sad

Cheers DD looking forward to having a play with it. We don't have the heat on when we're in bed but I do like the idea of programming it to warm the van up an hour or so before before you wake up Thumbs Up

We have it in our Elddis Affinity. Its very good and puts a good amount of heat out. I like the programmes. You can set it to be on at a lower temperature at night if you want.

I'm not sure about gas consumption, because I have only used it with electric so far.

A few things to note. I was aware of a constant gurgling in the header tank which is in the wardrobe by the fixed bed in our van. It was keeping us awake at night. So I took the cover off and found it needed a top up. This was on a new caravan, so keep an eye on the level. Mine has not dropped since, so must have been air in the system that bled out on first use. Its silent now.

The interior heat sensor is in the bottom edge of the touch panel. I find it very slow to react to changes in the interior temp of the caravan. This results in getting too hot before it clicks off, or getting too cold before it clicks in. I tried the system with the plastic edge cover of the touch screen removed and it was much better and quicker to react. I plan to drill a vent hole in the bottom of the surround to help it. You can buy a remote sensor and connect it to the back of the panel, and position it somewhere better perhaps?

You can adjust the interior temp reference by +or - 5 degrees. I find the panel over states the interior temp by about 5 degrees. eg. If the interior temp is a true 18 degrees, the panel reads 23. So I adjust to -5 so it reads 18. The only problem is, when you disconnect power, it forgets your settings. You can buy a plug in backup battery to retain these settings if you wish.

We've had it for the last 9 years or so, it's the only heating to have.

It's much quicker to warm up if you start off with both gas and electric, and then switch to only electric after about 20 minutes. The 2 kw setting (maximum on mine) will then maintain a nice cosy temperature.

I thought "wet" was a relatively new concept in the past 3 or 4 years Shocked

Gareth. fortunately my header tank is at the opposite end of the van to where we sleep and sited in a cupboard in the toilet/shower area, but I must admit ever since we got the new van 6 months ago I've thought the level looks quite low, must check this as well.

Anyway, cheers guys, ill have a play with the various settings/power sources over the next few days Thumbs Up

Wet has been around for years. My son burnt his leg on the trauma fire in our Abbey caravan so we decided to get something else. At the time only Fleetwood, Bessecar and Vanmaster did and of those only Fleetwood would build the layout we wanted. In all that time it's only been topped up a little and I wouldn't say it was particularly thirsty on gas either. No way I'd go back to blown air heating.

Bought our 2009 van in 2010 and was pleased to find it had Alde heating. And yes it was a Fleetwood - probably one of the last they sold.
