Aluminium corrosion
Just a question about aluminium underbody protection plates in general. It's an aluminium plate held onto a steel chassis by steel bolts right?
Is there something that will prevent/limit electrolytic corrosion from all the salt that'll be sprayed over the roads this winter?
Is it such a hefty lump of metal that it just doesn't matter?
Would plastic spacers help or hinder?

It could occur. The easy way to prevent it is to use a barrier, something as simple as a strip of insulation tape along the contact surface works wonders.
Having said that, I did not put anything on my sump guard, and it still looks ok. There is a pretty thick layer of paint on the chassis which may be helping.

I'll look for something that'll do the job then - is there much room between the bolts and the bolt holes, i.e. enough to fabricate a nylon washer to centre the bolt in the hole and isolate them?
I can see that I'm really going to have to try hard and restrain myself from falling into my usual "silicon sealant solves everything" type of solution Dr. Ian Malcolm:

I may have over-used it in the past You know the kind of thing; run out of polyfilla, need something to quieten down a door slamming, stamp won't stick to envelope, cupboard won't stick to wall...

Ali & steel does not mix well, the bolts will cause corrosion on there own being in contact with the ali.
I work in the aircraft industry and we have alsorts of nasty treatments for when the two metals are in contact with each other.
One simple barrier thats cheap is to coat both surfaces in silcone grease or just silicone sealent.
And use platsic or leather washers as well.

Denso Tape or Denso Grease will prevent the corrosion taking place.

corrosion relies upon electrolytic action, with the D3 effectively 'insulated' by it's tyres, corrosion should be minimal. mine's been on for a year and there's no signs of corrosion - some oxidisation though.... maybe I should rub some olive oil into it?

Thanks everyone, your advice is much appreciated. It seems I have two options;
I can use Denso tape or similar insulator (which means it'll be Silicone Sealant; I just can't help myself) and leather/plastic washers for the mountings,
or,
For the Roman Wrestler look I should annoint the whole car in Olive Oil and use Ciabatta washers...
