Hey everyone,
Been lurking here for a while now I bought my first Landy - 08 D3 SE
Had it 4 months now and had my fair amount of lights on the dashboard. Nothing major yet, but since a month after I bought it had the dreaded normal height only suspension fault.
Been having a look around and expected to see the hitatchi compressor when I took the cover off. Had it off this yesterday and found the AMK unit (dated March 2016)!
I have been underneath with a squirty bottle with soapy water and can’t find any leaks on the 2 pipes coming out of the compressor.
That leads me onto two questions
1. Can this AMK unit be refurbished or should I just cut my losses and buy a new compressor?
2. I know the failure can happen quickly if the software change isn’t done when changing the compressor. I don’t have access to an IID tool (yet) but have a very friendly Indy with a snap on computer. Can this software be checked and changed using a snap on computer or does it have to be an iid?
Thanks in advance for looking and any responses!
Regards
Chris

It can be refurbished but will be unreliable and short lived.
Most unusual for a compressor to fail within two years, I would check for other faults and leaks before buying another, even if still on Hitachi software it should last longer, running with faults or leaks will dramatically shorten it's life. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the reply, when I saw the date I did think that.
The symptoms are when you start the engine all is fine, you can hear the compressor (when you are under the car) running, after 10-15 seconds the compressor stops and 9 times out of 10 the fault is thrown on the dash with the orange warning light.
If you raise or lower the car before the error it raises and lowers fine.
Don’t suppose you know the common areas to check for leaks on the system?
Thanks
Chris

What fault codes are you getting. Worth getting these before you go any further.

If you’ve got the iid tool update the compressor software now you know what you’ve got. Many instances of dealers changing compressors and not changing the software. PAGODA

My AMK lasted 3 years and know it was done right as Geoff did it. Think they are a bit of a lottery to be honest. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Thanks everyone, do you have to do the update using an iid? Or would something like the snap on computer my indy has do the job?
If not will have to find someone local with an iid or bite the bullet and order one

I have just had my compressor changed, it was Hitachi for Hitachi on a 59 plate. I did look into the AMK upgrade, but my Indy said it would have to go to a LR agent for the software upgrade, so I backed out.
Don't know if this is relevant, but mine showed an error code which was.....timing out because the compressor was too slow. This only showed first thing in the morning. If you switched it off, after the error message, and then restarted it was always ok. This was probably because the tank was three quarters full, and so never timed out on the second shot. 1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

I updated my D3 with the IID BT from Hitachi to AMK. Its quite a significant outlay but I would say its paid for itself over the past 2 years.

Hi all,
Apologies for the lack of reply my friendly mechanic decided it was time to have a holiday (inconsiderate!). So scheduled to go over and see him this weekend and read the codes.
Will let you all know how I get on!

My AMK Compressor has also failed under 20K miles and just over 2 years old. Fitted in April 2016. Going to try and an send it back to LR as it is an original part and refit a bearmach 3 year warranty one its a lot cheaper. You can get them from Advanced factors.

Hi all,
Got the fault codes read and a bit more on Sunday! So here goes -
The main fault code being genrerated everytime you clear it and restart the engine is
C1A20 Pressure too slow filling reservoir
Also had when I first started her up -
C1A27 Compressor Circuit
U0132 Lost Communication with ride level control module
After the mechanic messing about with changing stuff he didn't understand I now also have CA100 red suspension dash light and doesn't work at all. I think this is just an option he turned on so should be easily fixed. But still got the original error.
Any help greatly received!
Thanks
Chris

There’s a 60a fuse under the bonnet for the compressor,See if that’s blown. But it looks like you’ll have to bite the bullet and get a new compressor.
