Another newbie stupid question
Hi,
I have read lots of post about blanking the EGR valves.
Is there any easy way of telling on a used D3 if the valves have been blanked? I am guessing not but just wondering if this is something I may have to consider.
Power and economy pretty good from what I can tell with my first 4 months of ownership so thinking this mod may have already been done on mine?
Cheers,
Keith.

dont own a LR but from memory of posts, part of the process for ERG blanking also needs the butterfly valvue in the air inlet to be removed else it starves the engine of air volume.
not sure how easy that is to check IE un-clip air filter box and look down the inlet; if there's a big slab of plastic on a spindle then I'd say not done.
somebody with more real knowledge will be along soon to explain better than I!!!!!.Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

The easiest way to check is to take a look at your engine bay after removing the plastic cover, if you can see the two silver braided pipes as shown in the picture below then the valves will not have been blanked off and vice versa. (Ignore the yellow arrow as the photo has been taken from an unrelated thread)
Don't forget to unscrew the oil filler cap before removing the plastic cover!

not quite true, there are also thin blanking plates available that fit like a gasket would fit at the bottom pipe end that leave those pipes in place.Bodsys Brake Bible
Or 2p fitted by LRE at the road side LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Taking the photo won't really help. If the pipes aren't there then it will be blanked. However if they are there it doesn't mean that it hasn't been blanked. It would be quite difficult to tell if it had been blanked using a blank or 2p like a gasket (as Bodsy and others have mentioned). If it has been blanked then the butterfly should have been removed and checking this is easier to do than "seeing" if the blanks are in place. I'd suggest taking a look for the butterfly before removing the EGR's to see if they are blanked.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Braided hoses still in place.
The car is actually going in for new discs and pads to the local independant guy in a week so I will ask to see if he can confirm if they have been blanked or not.
Thanks for responses anyway.
Cheers,
Keith.
