Another PDC problem and question... |
|
First a bit of background...
My D3 has front and rear PDC.
The front has been disabled to make-way for a winch. The sensors remain gaffered up behind the plastic ediface and were disabled in the bios or what ever it is called when it is in a car... This was all work done by LR at the factory.
The rear PDC is (or was) working as normal.
I have a single button with LED indicator on the dash for something related to the PDC.
I took my car for an interim oil change, new alternator belt and the usual arduous use interim service stuff such as EPB clean and reset. This was done by an LR specialist using the LR diagnostics to reset the handbrake.
After this the vehicle went for an extensive valet.
Once I collected the vehicle I noticed that:
Upon ignition on I get a beeping - urgent one as though an alarm / warning.
The PDC LED indicator flases
The PDC (rear) no longer works - does not do anything upon selecting reverse
LED continues to flash throughout the journey - regardless of wether that be a forward or backward journey.
To remedy it I asked the LR specialist to disable the PDC in the bios. This was done but the symptoms remain unchanged.
Further to the above symptoms the following also occurs:
The bleeping and LED flashing still occur when a trailer is attached (electrics)
The LED flashing can be stopped by pressing the PDC button
Once stopped the LED flashing can not be resumed by pressing the PDC a second time
The LED flashing can not be stopped by pressing the PDC button when towing
Selecting reverse has no cause or effect
If anyone can put their finger on what the problem might be given the history and symptoms I'd love to hear.
Thanks.

A clue maybe in the Valet!!!!!!!, the rear PDC's are very fragile regarding the jet wash beleive it or not. Its not been unknown for one to fail cos of this, and muck ingress. I would guess one has failed on you giving you this constant alarm and LED.
This happened to me as well. I found some on ebay cheap as a set, I have one left so if you find the problem drop me a PM and I can sort one out for you mate

Any faults will be stored and can be retrieved using LR T4 computer ...
Does the bleeping come from the front or rear sounder ? G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

My front PDC is fine, but rear one was beeping when reverse was engaged in wet weather! Hopefully been fixed under warranty when it was at the dealers' last week.

There must be a run on these. I had this problem about three weeks ago.
When it was wet I got this annoying noise (I first thought it was SWMBO) when engaging reverse and the PDC light on the console would just flash. In dry weather all was fine.
Dealer fixed it all under warranty .

Iona,
The flashing LED means that there's a fault with the PDC system - it's very generic and will keep flashing all day.
When you said it was beeping, was it the beep from the instrument cluster or the rear PDC beeper in the boot?
If the front beeper 'beeps', then the fault could be the rear beeper or front sensors.
If it's the rear beeper beeping, then the fault is likely to be either the rear sensors, the PDC switch, the LED in the switch or a CAN error.
The valet sounds suspicious, but after having so many things changed at the same time in the workshop, they could have upset something. Did they delete all fault codes or just modify the PDC settings? 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks for the help...
the following might also be useful...
Without using a stethoscope I think the beeping comes from the instrument cluster as with any other fault. I certainly isn't sounding from the rear of the vehicle.
The LED seems to light so I don't think it is a fault with that.
The switch now seems to do nothing.
I think the error codes were deleted - I had some issues with a damaged alternator belt resulting in belt slip that in turn resulted in a low voltage when using high drain auxillary lights (x6). This resulted in an array of faults similar to those found when the battery is nearing end of life.
If this helps with a diagnosis then let me know.

Thanks for the help on this.
It turns out that there is some damage to the rear bumper of the vehicle.
I don't know where the damage came from but it looks like a car park knock that I hadn't spoted earlier.
I'll replace the sensor and see what happens.

My front PDC was also disabled when I had a winch fitted. However, sealing the inner two sensors with Prestick in a plastic bag & then having the front PDC enabled again, ensures that the two outer sensors still work normally for those tight turns.
Distance is reduced for obstructions directly ahead of the vehicle but the winch takes the bump if I misjudge! Ren Colyn

Been searching and came across this old topic. I am having the same problem:
I get a beeping - urgent one as though an alarm / warning as soon as I select Reverse
The PDC LED indicator flases
The PDC (rear) no longer works
This all happened after my bumber was worked on post some work on my rear wheel carrier. I assume someoone has damaged something. I no longer need the sensors given my carrier and new towbar. IS the easiest thing to do to avoid the alarm sound, to just take out the fuse for the PDC?
