Another rattle question in a new LR3 |
|
OK, I know my questions about my new LR3 are getting old, but before I bring it in for it's first service appointment, I want to make sure that the things bothering me aren't simply "normal" LR3 quirks (this isn't my first Land Rover so I'm willing to resign myself to the idea that some of these things will just have to be accepted).
When I go over bumps, the vehicle sounds very tight (much better than any other Land Rover I've ever had). However, when initially starting a drive with the air or heat on, I hear occassional creaks from the dashboard that have nothing to do with hitting bumps. I think it's probably just materials expanding due to temp changes. Is this normal?
Also, when I first get out of my vehicle after driving it and shutting it off, I hear a lot of metallic pops from underneath. Is this the catalytic convertor (i.e. is this normal)?
TIA,
Mark 2008 LR3 HSE with heavy duty package and satellite radio.

Don't know about the pops, but I had a dashboard creak from about 15000km to about 50000km, then it went away; so I presume it was some natural wear.
Then there's the quirky aircon fart from the centre console which gives the car a certain character. it didn't turn up until around the 40000km mark. Have a nice day!

I've noticed a lot of metalic pops too...immediately after turning off after any drive that takes up to operating temp. Sounds like heat shields and the like are cooling down/contracting which is normal, but I haven't owned a car that makes such a racket.
Now what about that release of air pressure when I open any door in access mode after the vehicle has cooled down...?!

as for the pops, I'd say Johnhe was right on the money.

My Forester used to make a fair recket when cooling. There was a lot of heat shielding over the headers. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Mine has some noise and quirks coming from behind the dashboard's lateral vents. Due to fix next inspection, as they are obnoxious... but not as to make me stop driving! PG'ed
