What have people used for fitting an antenna (CB) to a roof rack?
I've used a magnetic mount but that will no longer work. And one of Rays mounting plates won't work either as the rack will foul the antenna.
A simple gutter mount ?The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeksnearly 4 weeksover 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."
One of Uncle Rays mounts should work, just use a couple of nuts & bolts to fit it the rack instead of the normal base plate, you could even use eye nuts if the bolts were long enough The End
Should work...if they were in stock... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

I use as Slimer mentioned. I use the RLD Bracket, and the base plate n eye bolt on the expo. It fits nicely in the rack slats
Rik I'll drop him a line. Thx.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Windy Corner, I used this
and Initially placed here
Then used the same top part of the bracket, with the bottom part of a Expo Lashing Eye to fit here
I ran the cable Under the trim at the end of the roof rail, down the inside of the rear door and through the outer and inner grommits (yep theres 2)
Thanks for that, I was guessing that was the mount, have ordered the bracket from Ray, will order the mount as well
I was intending to mimic your routing, if I struggle I'll let you know

No probs, once in the grommits it will leave you inside the N/S/R cubby box, its then under varous trims to your chosen destination.

I'm copying you as well, just ordered my heavy duty bracket from RLD today, think I'll be using the same set up as you as well Macleod from the web site you recommended. Glad you mention cable length as I was wondering
Which of course leads to one or two more queries, is it the shorter aerial you have, did you need to run a separate earth cable from the mount, did you add a new fuse into the fuse panel or where did you take power from and do you have any piccies and details of the external speaker and its position?
Sure there will be more questions to follow, but thats it for now.

I went for the shorter ariel as it really is for the odd event and talking to the group, and not for miles n miles. The ariel does obviously clatter the trees, so shorter the better, just remember to get it SWR'd with a meter.
My ariel does'nt need earthing, is mounted/housed in plastic/rubber anyway.
I cheated with the power supply, my Midland is powered with a Cig adapter and plugs into the aux power behind the armrest.
Although the midland has a built in speaker, when its in the armrest the sound is muffled, so off ebay I purchased a CB external 3.5inch speaker with jack adapter and cable. The midland has a jack plug anyway, ran the cable through and removed the speaker from its housing and placed it inside the right hand air vent to the right of the satnav screen. Works a treat
This is his heavy duty antenna mount, I'm using a Yaesu ATAS120 HF/VHF/UHF antenna

Radio arrived today, and MacLeod, guess what,m more questions.......
When you fitted your radio into the cubby hole under the center armrest did you take the liner out (the whole lot not the cd bit in the bottom)? How do you get it out without breaking it?
I would do a search for how to but I don't know if the search function would recognise "the box under the arm rest" Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Took the fridge out You need to remove Lid, alot of the centre consul trim and the rear Aux power panel at the rear of the cubby box.
Alot of the trim is held with hidden screws, some under the rubber inserts buy Park Brake lever, and opposite sides.
Think Wiggs has a PDF file on this, someone sent it to me but gone ages ago
