Anybody washed under the bonnet and had trouble?
I washed under the bonnet lightly with a garden hose last week and the following day, I had loads of faults up on the dash including transmission faults, gearbox faults etc.
A can of WD40 later most of the faults went except for no special programs, no hill descent control and no range change!!
The car has been in the dealers since Wednesday and they've confirmed water damage! they've suggested you shouldn't wash under the bonnet!
This is my 4th Disco and I always thought they could go anywhere?, what happens if you drive through a flood or big puddle, will the electronics go bang?
Anybody here had anything similar happen to them? or am I being unreasonable to wash under the bonnet?

I use a hose to get the cr*p off the engine & electrical gubbins & a jet wash to get it off the underside of the bonnet, both with no problems. Seem to recall it is a Land Rover, it's supposed to get a bit wet under the bonnet occasionally as NoDo$h is showing!!!

hgrees, where is the water ingress? Did you remove any of the plastic covers when washing yours? I've never had any problems washing under the bonnet in mine, though usually only do it when the engine is warm, and then bring it for a 5 mile drive after.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

I was going to jet wash my engine bay tomorrow as it looks like a sand pit under there after last weekend.
Should I not?

None of the covers were removed and they say the water has got into a module behind the battery somewhere and blown a fuse. I don't know at this stage if it needs a new module but I still won't have the car back until next week.

Si.
I did Monday and have always washed the underside of the bonnet and the engine bay. However I do take care not to blast water into places that look a bit technical In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
I've jetwashed the underside of the bonnet and along the tops of the wings. Anything else under the bonnet gets a squirty of diluted TFR from a 2l pressure bottle, a quick work around with a brush (Mrs Do$h has about a dozen dustpans and no brushes ) then a rinse with the hose running at a trickle. I never spray directly on either battery box after killing the ecu on an old car of mine doing just that.
It's odd; whenever I see pics of me driving Wedgie I seem to have this grin on my face. It's almost as if it's a permanent fixture. Anyone else suffer from this? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Some 4x4 magazine in Oz had a water ingress problem in the same spot as yours. They were really abusing it though.
There was a dicussion on a post about it, the possibility of sealing the control box.
Just be careful where you point a high pressure hose. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I blast out everything under the hood, but I don't take the covers off of the battery boxes. I have an air compressor in one, and the battery and BJB are in the other, neither of which would take water too well.

Pressure washer is fine as long as you're sensible around the really sensitive areas like the battery box. I've even taken the lights and grill out for pressure washing...all was fine after. Just don't go in too close with the nozzle
Have been advised not to steam clean though ...don't know the reason 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
DSL caused me a nice chuckle. Your picture above of Nodo$h and his blanked out number plate. Can someone explain how that stayed clean coming through that when the rest of the car got a new paint job? Life is what you make it.

Just had a row with the service manager as he said because I jet washed the engine bay(which I didn't) that the water ingress was not covered under warranty and I would have to pay!
Not happy about that response as I haven'r removed any covers and I can't see how the washing I did has caused so much hassle.
When I know more I'll post it on here.
But be warned!

Washing
Seems to me that the problem here is that you told them you washed under the bonnet, thus giving them a way out.
every one i know washes under the bonnet without any problem, what has probably happened here is the car has developed a fault that you assumed was to do with washing, and after telling the dealer that they can now blame you and charge you for the repiar.
witholding the washing information from (no, i havent done anything i dont always do) them would have lead to them finding a faulty ecu a replacing it under warrantee.CLUB "Ah Shor it'll be grand"
