Anyone know whats needed for tv on sat nav screen? |
|
Just wondered whats involved in getting tv to work on Sat nav screen. I have a 2006 D3 SE. Anyone know what equipment i need to fit and is there a guide somewhere on how to do it. Would love to have it as it would pass the time when waiting for kids to finish after school activities etc.

DVB-t tuner (twin best) and a Fakra cable from Martin, job done
See this; http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic79508.html It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Not quite ( well for LR tv any way )
Tv tuner
Tv tuner bracket
Most cable
4 x antenna amps
2 x antenna wiring looms
Coax cable from tv tuner to screen
Power for tv module
It then needs to be enabled to switch in the tv icon on the screen G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

A cheaper option is to fit a gvif unit and then a digital tv box from fleabay and wire that in and up to the screen via the gvif unit. I have this setup in my D3.

@ vinnie - it depends if you go eom or not.
My suggestion having done the oem route would be to go aftermarket. It cost me roughly £750 for cables tuner etc, if you want it on the move then add another £150. That is if you fit it all yourself.
If you go oem I have a list of exactly what you need with part numbers and prices. d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack
D3 with the following
Alive Tuning EGR blanking kit
Alive Tuning Re-map
Alive Atrics console
Samco intercooler hoses (from Alive Tuning)
Alive Tuning De-Cat pipe, lovely tone!
Retrofit OEM Hybrid TV tuner

Can be done for less than £300 if You DIY, and works perfect at 70+mph or in the garage with the doors closed, choose the right tuner with a usb socket and you can play/record mp3, mp4 files and record video via a memory stick or card reader. You can also connect rear screens and rear view camera if needed. Works perfect can't recommend enough It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

GVIF and DVB-t twin tuner(twin tuner essential for tv on the move) mounted under front passenger seat, twin amplified ariels mounted in rear quarter glass,(tried existing ariels but got better results with plastic Audi motif badge type ariels). Unit has USB connector for memory stick or card reader to record and play mp3 and mp4 AVI video files, but I havenot got that far yet as I am waiting for the correct usb extention cable to come.
Sony CCD rear camera mounted in number plate light. Input selector connected to can bus.
GVIFs have facility to connect upto 3 different video inputs plus rear cam, and have output for rear screens if needed. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
