Quite agree Moo, I’ve had good prices and service from A Plan, and horrendous prices from flux. Insurance is so individual that you should never be put off because someone else had a high quote, they just won’t fit the preferred criteria for that company.

Appreciate the comments Moo and Dave! Absolutely insurance is individual to each persons "risk profile" which consists of so many factors.

I always say, unless you live in the same house, do exactly the same miles, work the same job, born on the same day, have the same driving history etc... then you can't compare to "Bob from the pub" just because you have the same type of car Thumbs Up

And the appetite for one insurer will be completely different to another - some like mods, some don't, some like certain professions, some don't. It depends on their own claims data too as well as national statistics.

I’m not impressed !

….. and I’m still not impressed !

But more than interested for you to specifically address the issues I raised; that prompted me to raise this thread.

However as nice as she was, the 'specialist' didn't have much knowledge in the kit I was declaring as extras e.g. RAI, sump plate, sliders, twin electrics, solar panel, etc etc.
It left me concerned if everything I declared and fully explained, would actually be covered?
Absolutely you'd be covered, we list everything you say and have recorded telephone calls, our staff are specialists and some will be more specialist in certain fields such as kit car, modified, high performance, American imports and of course, 4x4. We do however all have a knowledge of the specialist market as a whole, and it is possible you may have spoken to someone newer to the team or in our overflow rather than the part of the furniture folk like myself, we all start somewhere and its certainly a job you learn new things everyday, no conversationis the same and im 8 years in, but our recruitment process targets motor enthusiasts as a whole. We have 40 staff in specialist and additional in our overflow teams for when our lines get busy - this is to reduce call wait times.

I've just moved house and in the process of advising everyone of my change of address, A-Plan advise they need to charge me £59 extra because my vehicle is now located in a different area.
All well and good, however in changing my summer open-top runabout and the wife's car, none of these insurance companies wanted more money for the address change!
Insurers rate postcodes differently based on statistics, what may be low risk for one may not be for another, this is judged on both national statistics and data and the insurers own claim data for that area based on their own policy holders in that area, for example one insurer may insure 10 people in that postcode and another only 2, if all 12 had a claim then the insurer with 10 policy holders will see that as a higher risk than the one who only had 2 claims to pay out for.
In addition to this some insurers (many of them) charge a mid-term fee for any changes whatever they may be so this may be the case, without knowing who you are i cannot look at the breakdown of costs specifically. But what i can say is the full £59 fee is not entirely an A-Plan/Howden charge as we do not have a fee of that amount, for a midterm change we would not physically be able to charge that amount as us, so some or all will have been insurer charge.

Please let me know if I missed any issues that still need addressing - and if you would like a breakdown of the change of address cost just pm me you postcode or registration so I can find you on the system and I will get that for you.

Another ex-customer of A-Plan here.

Insured with them last year - £299 fully-comp, including legal expenses cover. Their renewal quote for the same policy this year - £697!!

Once I'd stopped laughing I ran my details through the Money Saving Expert comparison site, and got loads of quotes which beat A-Plan (or Howdens, as they're apparently now called) by a long way. Ended up going with Hastings Direct on one of their standard policies - slightly lower excess than my old policy, increased annual mileage, and a premium of £286.

A-Plan, or Howdens, or whoever they are now, clearly aren't interested in insuring us Disco drivers any more. Maybe it's time to end their sponsorship arrangement with this site? I certainly don't think disco3.co.uk should be promoting a company who clearly aren't interested in getting our business.

Hi

Also had a sharp increase of premium with A plan

My renewal went from £450 to £1,100, , indeed same as others where nothing had changed , did call the office and was also advised about keyless entry issues and one of there insurers wouldn’t cover land rovers anymore so that’s why costs were a lot higher

Knew it wasn’t A plans fault seeing the usual broker wasn’t available anymore

Checked on compare and found a quote which I accepted with Hastings direct , then added extras below under Hastings premier for £520

Premier cover included

Breakdown (Upgraded) (with
RAC Breakdown)
• Motor Legal Cover

Additional cover
Breakdown - Home (with RAC
Breakdown)
• Key protection

At the end of the day wished I could have stayed with them but alas price increase was to much of a difference

Apologies we couldn't help you gstuart but appreciate the feedback, insurers do adjust their criteria all the time, so fingers and toes crossed we can come back down for you next year. Will say... you won't see many other brokers online at midnight Wink I don't sleep Yawn

Howden's have taken over our PI broker who we've used for the last 6yrs. Sadly lost the business when we came to renew in March. Super pushy, then became aggressive when we declined and went to another broker. They then found out who we had terms from and demanded the same terms from the insurer. We still declined

It went on for another 24hrs before they finally gave up which numerous calls and online meeting demands to try and "resolve the situation".

Super aggressive and all over a 15k premium.

I'm not sure which broker you're referring to in regards to now being Howden? I'm wracking my brains as to who it may be Confused
A-Plan joined Howden 2 years ago (just recently did a name change), Aston Lark also changed to Howden on the same day however also been part of Howden quite a while.
A-Plan has never encouraged pushy/hard selling, infact it's strongly discouraged and we don't gain anything from doing so as staff as we do not recieve a commission, purely salary based (i dont know about the other businesses though). We don't like pushy sales so if you can pm me the name of the branch within Howden/old name please do as I'll pass this on.

Indeed massive respect to being online at midnight, Bow down

Many thks and do understand , alas it was a shock with the £650 increase , was with u for 7 x years along with 12 x year NCB , admittedly do like to stay loyal to a company but alas this was too much of an increase to accept

That would be great if ur able to get it back down , will u automatically send out a quote next year to me or will I have to apply plse , my cover will expire 19th Oct 2024

Thks again for everything that you’ve done and look forward to see what u can do next year

All the best and have a great weekend

Gary

Completely understand Gary!

It depends on your marketing preferences, if you opted in then we would usually contact you saying give us a try - but if you opted out then no contact will be made... so maybe just give us a bell when you get your renewal invite from your new insurer Smile

Ok many thks as to be honest I’m not 100% sure if I opted in or not

Just said to the lady on the phone that I’m sorry I won’t be able to accept the renewal price

With JLR now doing keyless entry software updates for Land Rovers 2018 onwards and fingers crossed can resolve the part delay issues it may then bring the premiums dramatically back down again ??

Plus really feel sorry for learners trying to get there first car cover , does also concern me with high premiums of individuals that may risk driving without insurance , blessing there’s so many ANPR cameras around to try and catch them

Out of curiosity do land rovers have the highest premiums or are there other manufacturers that are similar plse, many thks

Sorry I’m waffling as per usual , lol

I imagine insurers will need to see the new security working and bringing thefts down so it won't be instant, but hopefully!

Not just JLR that are in the top, Range Rovers are the top in terms of JLR models, BMW X series are quite hot (so I feel your pain as I have an X5 even though its 15 years old and the air con doesn't work so im probably safe, my neighbours X1 which is much newer and keyless managed to get sat in, but not started by theives, a few months back - funnily enough caught on camera using my car as a shield from their cctv), certain Mercedes recently have been a target for theft at least in this area anyway. If you Google top most stolen cars in the UK the AA and a few other release lists and data on this every year in accordance with DVLA figures - RRs and other JLR models feature in the top 5 for at least the last 5 years.

Does seem the ghost alarm system is getting talked about a lot on utube etc , but mixed reports of it not being Thatcham approved so not recognised by insurance companies , don’t know how true that is , think the ghost 2 may be approved ??

Did look and see the factory fitted thatcham alarms can also be updated on many models

https://www.sasmobile.co.uk/products/smartrack-s5

But at the end of the day terrible that a 100k FFRR can be stolen so easily , hopefully the update that JLR are doing will resolve the issue , see what u mean as just looked them up
