Apologies but maybe a different sort of FBH question? |
|
G'day All,
My FBH has never worked even following the usual 'fuse out' reset, however since purchasing an FCR and unlocking it, it fires up everytime. Everything looks and sounds promising until a Phut, silence and a cloud of smoke.
The FCR says failed to start after attempted re-start, component failure.
It does work from time to time but can't pinpoint any pattern.
Anybody any ideas? Maybe if i persist in unlocking it might clear/ clean itself?

Have you got enough Diesel in the tank - you need about a third full or the FBH won't play I seem to remember.

Have you had it primed with a Faultmate ?
That might kick start it back into life.
Could be clogged up through non use during spring/summer/autumn.
But if not, you might need a new FBH.
Mine gave up last year.
Had Pete [BAS] check it out, it would kick start via Faultmate and really belch out smoke.
But it wouldn't operate correctly under it's own steam.
He confirmed it as knacked.
Got secondhand one via TLO contact & had Pete fit it complete with webasto remote phone timer.
Everything now nice n toasty.

Hey, my FCR also comes up with that error message every time I hook it up but the FBH still appears to be working even if i dont clear that message.........?

Thanks for the responses guys.
Yes enough fuel in tank.
Not had it primed with faultmate.
If you listen to the sound it makes, it starts from a low pitch and goes to high such as when boiling a kettle, then seems to blow itself out.
It worked for the first time ever at the first cold start after the summer and a couple of times since I have stopped on the way to work and checked and burnt my fingers on the exhaust but it will never work when I stand and watch it. Could it be a battery power/ fuel pressure issue when idling?
To be honest I have never really missed it but if its there I'd like it to work.

My betting is that its gunked up after months of non use, try a dash of redex in your fuel tank, and eventually after a number of starts on the FBH it will pull the redex through and clean your jets out ! worth a try anyway

Divlar - this is the identical issues/scenario to me. Planning on fitting the timer to get it to run more regularly. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Matty, been running on Redex for most of the summer, so when it fired up for the first time I thought this had cracked it - maybe it will after a few more starts?
John C - I think the same would maybe happen with the timer, the signal to fire it up is there just won't keep on going?

Yes, but using the timer I can keep firing it to get a decent flow of fuel through it. Apparently the timer will also allow me to reset the FBH, but am also thinking about one of those £200 fault clearing things too.
I'm hoping it's just gunged up, and needs to clear itself, but then maybe that's only possible if you prime it...
