I'm on 17" continentals and they are rock steady on wet roads. In terms of tyre pressure I tend to run them at the handbook recommendations for fully loaded as i get fed up changing the tyre pressures every time I load it up. The only handling issue i've had is a slight move towards understeer in the wet as they wear out but can't really complain as they've done nearly 30,000 miles so far and still have legal life in them. Very stable at speed, fantastic grip at lower temps and in snow and ice, and due to the large amount of sipes in the tyre the water displacement is amazing.
This might be a silly question, but I'm thinking of giving the Wintrac's a try on the next change, Are they OK to use all year round (ie. long summer drives on hot motorways)? 2005 D3 HSE

That’s quite interesting & has just brought back to mind a chat I had with the service manager, about the D3’s performance though road side floods, when I first got a D3 in ’05.
He said that they too noticed the unsteady nature of the D3 though floods when fitted with 18’s or 19’s, but found that the D3’s fitted with 17’s handled the water just like the older TD5 or Tdi discos !!

MIL is running std tyres on 17's just asked her and she said absolutely no issues at all in the wet, loves it, she is on her 2nd D3 after 2 d2's.
I'm running 18's with AT2's and noticed a distinct improvement in the deeper puddles. i'll be getting these tyres again when the need arizes,
and crews control, I ran winter tyrres all year round when living on the continent, the only thing was you ware them a little quicker, but it was never a problem, one wife.......livid

I had HP Wranglers on the rear and new Nexen( ) on the front. Noticed a lot of hydroplaning...
Changed to 18" Continental Cross-Contact ATs. Not only do they look 8) , but no hydroplaning.

Indeed they are CC, I ran them from March 08 through til Aug 09, only changed back to the originals as I was drivng to the Cz in August and couldnt see the point in wearing them out when the roads should be predominently dry, as they still have a fair amount of tread and I will be driving to Cz for Christmas and New Year.
Quite a number of people run them all year, I was lucky enough to get some cheap 7 spoke FFRR rims, so have the luxury of 2 sets of road tyres

Pirelli scorpions were steady with motorway puddles @160kmh down to 4mm tread. Now changed to new pirelli ATRs, even better. (very silly doing 160kmh in such conditions, but didnt notice all so quiet and comfy) There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

There is an interesting comparison of Pirelli Scorpion Zeros, STRs & ARTs here:-
http://tinyurl.com/nctujm
I am on Pirelli Scorpion Zeros at present, as fitted by LR when I bought the D3 - I don't use the car much off-road, only when shooting and am contemplating changing to Scorpion STRs.

Be careful with the STR as it it appears from the link you gave and the sizes available that there are no standard D3 tyre sizes available, and the ones that are close are not correct weight rating I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Thanks SJR.
If you fill out the tyre selection program on this web site:-
http://www.pirelli.co.uk/web/fitment/homeCarFull.do
for a 2.7 TDV6 it can't find a winter tyre and recommends Scorpion Ice & Snow or ATR for summer - no mention of the Scorpion Zeros which were fitted by LR to my car! Am I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

Hmmm, very strange..... unless people have been steering clear of it in significant enough numbers due to the lack of wear it has, and Pirelli have decided to withdraw it I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.
