ARB Bull Bar and Warn Winch

My colour coded ARB bar is going on next week. Getting the Warn 9.5XP and a pair of IPF 900XS lights too.

Did you get a dual battery setup? ARB quoted me $900 for the battery, so I think I'll wait a little while.

Have you noticed any difference in driving with the extra weight over the front end?

ARB bar and Winch

I have noticed a bit more sluggishness, but now quite used to it.
I also have Coopers STT, so the drive is already quite different from the standard tyres.
I do have a dual battery but not for the purpose of backing up the winch.
I did place an isolation switch in the engine bay.
Now considering the best way to secure the winch cord from vandals.
BTW - What do others use for snatch/recovery point at the front.

The built in recovery points are proper ones, not just tie downs. I wouldn't recommend using either one for snatching though!

Snatch point

What would be an ideal snatch point solution?
The ARB bull bar does not come with a recovery or snatch point.

Is the front recovery point not accessible anymore with the ARB bar on?

It is still there.
Just wondering:
1) Whether it is strong enough as a recovery point (both towing and attaching the winch cable).
2) Whether itis strong enough to snatch off.

The problem with this point is that it is slightly inaccessible, especially when buried in mud or sand. Hence one on the bar would be ideal.

1 Yes
2 No (well probably but I wouldn't risk it, snatching is a whole different ball game!)

Thanks for that Slimmer.

Will have to see if a snatch point can be placed on the bar.

To snatch or winch that is the question.

Given the choice, I would always winch when stuck , because the whole process is a lot more controlled.

The front recovery point should be accessible but not necessarily convenient.

In my D2 the ARB does not have recovery points on. There is obviously a reason for this. Perhaps some thing to do witht he cruxk cans for the Air Bag.

I believe I read some where that the front recovery point on RR RRS & D3 has a load rating, but can't find that at present.

I have the ARB winch bumper on order for my D3. Due into the UK in february. The word on the street is that my supplier is bringing 3 over. One for me & 2 to sell.

There is also a TJM unit in the pipeline but no definate prices or availablity on that yet though.

I have not put the contact details here as I am not sure of the correct rules on commercial promotion but pm me & i will pass on the gen.

Merry Christmas

I agree, self recovery with a winch would be far more beneficial than a snatch, but not when stuack in the sand.
ARB are probably thinking of the air bags and hence no recovery points provided.
Just wish LR would provide a more secure front recovery point like the rear.
I am very happy with my BB and winch, but it does take away the characteristic D3 look.
Nice to see that Australia is exporting something to England.
Hope you enjoy your bar.

Hi D3 Downunder,

How noisy do you find the STT's. I have the ST's and they are marginally noisy but very acceptable. Is expect the STT's to be noisier.

Thanks,

Chris
