ARB Compressor install, which location?
Hi, next year I plan on adding a few extras to my D4 and would like on board air.
Has anybody successfully fitted the single ARB compressor in the engine bay?
Whilst I don’t own one yet I’ve been looking and I’m not sure there is the space to fit one in there.
The other location would be in the near side rear boot space I guess, anyone have one fitted?
It would be this one...

Hi, I’ve read that thread actually, nice neat install you have.
Unfortunately there isn’t the room in there to fit it when you have a start/stop model as there is a second small battery and electric box in there!
The other location I’ve seen it fitted on Aus models is in front of the main battery but we have the fuel burning heater fitted there.
I did wonder if it would fit behind the front grill but maybe it would block off too much air flow to the radiator.D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue

Ah, that's tricky then. hmm
I knew about the FBH location but not the start/stop battery.
Limited options then - what about the driver's side compartment in the cargo area (if you don't have rear air conditioning) ?
I mounted my UHF radio there (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/224534-icom-ic-450n-installation-plan-2.html) and I reckon with some creative fabrication of a mounting bracket it could fit there.
Good luck.

Thanks David.
No I don’t have rear air con so think the rear passenger compartment is the best option, plenty of room in there!D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue

In case it's of any help, I made a bracket to span the space in that rear cubby.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-...lan-2.html
This was to mount my UHF radio but the relevant part is that there is a M6 nutsert in the pinchweld down low that you can fix to. I expect that any bracket will require some bending to have the required depth to accommodate the compressor.

Thanks David helpful stuff.
I’m hoping on fitting the compressor and an auxiliary fuse box in there, just need to design the brackets needed!D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue

A mate has one under the rear pass. seat with an outlet on the side of the seat. All hard wired & in a central location for airing-up,etc. Works really well for him.

Nice idea, out of the way.
I do sometimes have the seats down and laid flat though so not sure there would still be room for it.
Under the front passenger seat might be doable though!D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue

hi D4-Russ
did you find a suitable place (in the end?)
i bought a ARB twin-air and aslo looking a suitable spot...
twin battery, FBH, so no space under the hood as far as i can think off
as i need to mount it in the cabin somewere AND as i converted my D3 into a commercial van, the actual place is not a big issue... i am thinking under the cargo floor as i am mounting an extractable floor as we speak, and that one is higher than the original cargo floor from a 5 seater
BUT
where to get / route the proper battery connection (thick wires min. 8mm2 or above says the ARB manual..) although is a challenge (maybe)
how did you do that? (if )Best regards
Harold

I have the Aircon in the back and the removable tow bar that i ditched a year ago. So early in our lockdown I removed the bracket for the removable hitch. Its a tight squeeze but I plan to fit a compressor in there

Hi Harold,
I decided in the end not to have it fixed in the car and keep it portable!
Your plan of having it under the floor sounds good, as for cables, I believe there is a rubber grommet somewhere on the firewall (bulkhead) that people use for battery cable, can’t quite remember where it is though D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue
